I don't like falafel!!! I made it twice and the first time it made me sick to my stomach, but i figured I did something wrong, and the second time I just plain didn't like it. Then yesterday I went to a restaurant that had falafel sandwhiches and I once again couldn't stand it! Does this make me a horrible person, or am I just having bad luck with falafel by any chance? hehe

I'm still deciding what I think of falafel. But I did order it at a local veg restaurant recently, and that was a huge mistake because they put it on this enormous bread, making 90% of the sandwich bread you couldn't get your mouth around, and it was SO dry. Which caused me to dub it "falawful", hehehe. I've made the Fantastic mix at home, similar to my other falafel experience - I think both were Fantastic brand. There's something about the flavor I really like but then there is something about the texture and dryness that is awful. I'm thinking of giving it one more try, but this time making small balls instead of large ones (I rolled the mix into golf ball size before, I think it might be better 1/2 that size).

There's a tiny restaurant in my town that makes the best felafel ever. (It's called Felafels, appropriately enough... and they also bake their own pita every morning and make their hummus fresh, too.)

If I had only ever tried Fantastic Foods to judge felafel by, I'd hate it too. I'm pretty sure that stuff is made of recycled cardboard. But the real deal is something else.... flavorful, moist, crumbly, just spicy enough. Maybe you shouldn't write felafel off based on one or two examples.
