About a year ago, I went straight from a SAD diet into a vegan diet over the course of about 3 days. It didn't last long, as I started having extreme stomach pains. After a third "attack", my friends decided to take me to the ER. The result, after several blood tests, ultrasound, and an x-ray: There was nothing wrong. I was left with a diagnosis of "stomach cramps" and was told to pretty much cut out all high fiber foods.
For what I ate before having these stomach pains:
1) First attack came after having a green smoothie containing spinach, bananas, and mango.
2) I had a salad at Subway. It was mostly spinach, but also had onions and peppers.
3) This time it was a salad with just spinach and kale. Pain didn't take long to hit, and was hunched over in pain for about an hour before my roomate took me to the ER.
I was also eating plenty of nuts and pumpkin seeds, but didn't seem to get reactions from those.
It was rather discouraging [And also has left with me an uninsured medical bill...], so I instead went into a diet with fish and dairy allowed, lieing to myself that it was going to be required to stay healthy.
Now, just a month later, I was feeling more dedicated so I again became vegan. I've limited my spinach intake, since I thought that it may have been the culprit from before. After my first kale and spinach salad, again intense pain. So I'm not eating spinach. Okay, I can deal with that. However, I've also started getting similar stomach pains from BANANAS. And again after some black beans and rice with broccoli.
I'm worried that I could have some sort of allergy. I found some clues leading to a latex allergy, but I've never noticed a breakout from using actual latex products, as far as I know. I also read about transitiong vegans having stomach pains, which I'm REALLY hoping is contributing to this, rather than a medical issue.
Point is: Has anyone experienced something similar to this? Any advice/thought? Anything would be appreciated, honestly.
PS: I downed almost the entirety of a vegan pizza last week, and NO pain.
