Just thought I'd mention something about the banners that are now rotating at the top of the site.

Currently I'm rotating ads for the Veggie Banner Exchange. It works much like any banner exchange - for every 2 banners we show 1 of ours is shown on another site. This allows us to advertise VeggieBoards on other veg-related sites for free. Also gives us more control over what we advertise on our site.

If by chance someone is interested in paying for advertising then I'd be all for it. But for the forseeable future I will not be rotating ads for ad networks (which typically run those flashing, moving, and extremely annoying credit card and casino ads). This way we're promoting veg sites and those sites in turn are doing the same for us.

My only concern right now is that there aren't enough other sites participating to handle the impressions we've earned. In approximately 24 hours we've earned almost 2200 banner impressions and yet our banner has only been shown 29 times (meaning we're generating way more traffic than all of the other participants combined). But hopefully it'll grow, it's a great idea. If not, oh well.

I know we'd all prefer not seeing ads but I think this is an interesting concept and I hope you can all see the benefits. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to voice them, either here or through a PM.

I don't mind ads if they don't flash too much. Might learn something new from them one day. I've just been actually looking at them, I'd obviously flitted past them in a blur before. There's some good sites up there that deserve promoting - VO for one.

I was showing way more ads than they were able to give in return (it's an ad exchange) so now I have them set to only show two hours a day - one hour in the afternoon and one hour in the evening.

Right. The link exchange is run by another site, for every 2 banners we show they show one of ours. That's pretty much typical. But instead of showing "sponsor" ads they use their extra impressions to display ads for PETA, Vegan Outreach, and probably a couple of others. So PETA and Vegan Outreach aren't participating in the exchange, the person running it has just decided that they want their extra impressions to go toward promoting these organiziations. A couple of the other banners you've probably seen, such as ElectricTofu.com, are participating in the exchange and showing our banner. I hope that makes sense.
