L'Oreal's Response to Your Letters

Recently, AAVS informed its supporters about the acquisition of The Body Shop by cosmetics giant L'Oreal. Thank you to those who contacted L'Oreal, asking it to respect The Body Shop's no animal testing policy, and encouraging the conglomerate to join its new subsidiary by signing on to the Corporate Standard for Compassion for Animals. This Standard is overseen by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC) and is the highest level of assurance that a company is truly cruelty-free. Only those companies that prove the complete absence of animal tests throughout all stages of development are approved.

Those who wrote to L'Oreal may have received a letter from the company stating that it has not conducted animal tests since 1989. AAVS is issuing this statement because we believe this information may be misleading to our members. Although L'Oreal may not test its finished products on animals, the company is reluctant to reveal whether the product ingredients are tested on animals.

http://www.aavs.org/actionalerts01.html
