Over the weekend I went to Johnny Rockets, a little "old fashioned" resturant. I ordered a "streamliner" which is supposed to be a boca burger. My sister and grandma got the same thing. We are all vegetarians. I have been for three years, my sister for 6 months-ish and my grandma for 40+ years. I think they gave us real burgers, because we all got sick within a few days of eating it. Is this possible and how sick would we get? I was up all last night[two days after getting the food] throwing up and today...

You should feel fine within a couple days. It can take a bit to recover, especially if you ate the whole thing. Just wondering, didn't it taste a little different than a Boca burger?
Well, I'm sorry that they didn't give you the food that you asked for, and I hope it doesn't happen to you again! Hope you feel better soon.

It did taste different, hence the reason I stopped eating it after a few bites. N one else noticed, because they were just like, "oh my god, this is so good!"

That's something I've been paranoid about in the past, too. When I would go to a restaurant that served meat-like veggieburgers, I'd usually be with my mom--and I'd take the bun off the patty and ask, "This isn't meat, is it?" LOL. She ate meat for far longer than I did so I figure she'd be able to recognize it more easily. She probably got sick of that!

I'd also use a repetative style when ordering at Denny's, etc. "I'll have the Boca veggieburger." I figured if they don't understand "Boca" they might get "veggieburger".

If you had gotten sick from the food, it would have been a much faster reaction. Food reactions/food poisoning don't wait a few days before they make you sick. You may have all come down with stomach viruses unrelated to the food.

That has happened to me a few times too. I once ordered something that was supposed to have no meat in it and they put canadian bacon in it! The chef must have been drunk or something. Anyhow, I got a free new meal.

I had really bad stomach cramps the next day and had to call in sick to work. I only had a few bites too. (I had to have my meat-eating friend taste it to figure out what the hell was in my sandwich!)

Your stomach isn't use to processing the meat anymore so that is why you might feel sick.

Food poisioning can take days to develop depending on the kind you have Food borne intoxications, where toxins in the food from chemical contamination or from bacteria having time to multiply and die in the food, etc. can cause a reaction in a few hours, but an infection caused by a small number of pathogens living in the food could take days to develop into a food borne infection, and those are most common.

Really if you're sick a few days after you ate it I shouldn't be the fact that it was meat. You got food poisioning form something, and it could have been anything you ate in the last 3+ days.
