Gack! Just accidentally ate half this wierd oven casserole-style thing with what I figured were mushrooms. Nope, bits of pepperoni! Waaaaaahhhh! Ain't done that in a couple years.

At the mo I feeling more than slightly sick.

I reckon anything that contains meat should be packed in some kinda phosphorescent coloring, what do y'all thing? But seriously, wouldn't it be damn fantastic if products were legally obliged to clearly state "This product contains meat" right on the front? Kinda like the whole peanut-allergy thing here in the UK (not sure how it works over the pond).

Still, it'd be just as nice if meat tasted as nasty as the production process is. Ain't gonna happen any time soon though.

So how/where did this happen? In a restaurant? At a friends house? At first I thought it was weird that you mistaked pepperoni for mushrooms but I've done things like that before. Like once I couldn't tell if cheesy potatoes had ham in them or not.

This happened to me at least once before. For Thanksgiving my mom made two batches of dressing, one with turkey in it and one without. Well, she accidentally told me the wrong bowl and I ate about half of it before I noticed. I guess there was another time, when a friend told me the soup at Japanese restaurants (I can't remember the name) was vegetarian. After asking him several times to confirm (and eating it several times) I finally found out it contained fish flakes.

Some people here have no sympathy, they say you deserve what you get if you don't make it yourself.

Oh no... nothing so convenient an excuse as that. It was me! I just bought the wrong damn flavour of something in the supermarket, and though, "Oh... spicy tomato, sounds nice." Dumb me didn't associate "spicy" with "pepperoni". Not having actually eaten pepperoni in my entire life as far as I'm aware, I wasn't particularly au-fait with how the stuff tasted, and just figured the mushrooms were real tasteless.

Hence the rant about labelling goods as "Not suitable for vegetarians". If that were the case, I could just almost automatically check something in a moment, as opposed to the long-winded ingredients scan.

I do remember once I visited my landlord's place for food, and he was totally aware of my vegetarianism. To the point that after the meal he asked, "Did you like that? Have a guess what was in it." He'd only gone and put bacon in the cheese sauce. He didn't try anything similar again, I went slightly... erm... verbal.

Sometimes I go over my parents house and they have some old pizza lying out, and (I should know better) think that there's no meat on a slice, but turns out it is one of those pizzas with the sausage hidden under the cheese. So I spit it out and feed it to one of the cats.

a couple of months ago i was visiting at my mom's and we ordered pizza. i made sure they knew i was vegetarian over the phone. we ordered 2, one no-cheese veggie for me, and one with meat for my omni mom and brother. well i took only a couple of bites when i realized that there were several large pieces of meat (beef i think) on my veggie pizza. *sigh* i should know better. this is, after all, pizza hut i ordered from. i know, i work at one, they can NOT be trusted. i usually make my own at work. sooo i called them up and complained to a manager and they sent a new pizza right away. the new one seemed fine and i expected they'd be extra careful after getting a complaint (silly me) and i had a few slices without finding anything gross. but the next day when i grabbed some leftovers for lunch, i bit into bacon. argh! what is WITH these people??

Yea, I refuse to pick meat off pizzas, I always make sure it never had anything on it to begin with. I don't like to do half meat, half no-meat either. Usually, the non-meat side always has something stray into it.

Russ, I totally sympathize with what happened to you! I used to have the "vegetarian" soups at work whenever I could, but then later the chef told me most of their soups have a chicken stock base to them. Ack!! I don't touch the soups anymore, unless its minestrone, although I'm not 100% sure on that one.

That's totally disrespectful of that guy not to inform you of the ingredients, cause he thinks you're not going to notice! Arg....

Mushrooms are difficult for me because they usually look sooo much like meat in almost every way, especially when they're cooked. I always examine them closely to make sure they're not imposters!

Ah, yes, I think this happens to everyone.

Awhile ago I ordered some sort of garden salad from Wendy's and started eating it in the car. Then I realized the "mushrooms" were actually chicken bits! Ugh, I couldn't believe it!

:-( This is exactly the reason I rarely go to restaurants or fast food places (apart from the lack of choice).

I usually just eat it and say 'Oh well.' Nothing you can really do about it at that point other than to complain to the management and avoid eating/buying that stuff again.

I am really grossed out. I was so hungry today and we don't have lunch breaks here at work so my Mom offered to get me a salad from Wendy's since she was going there. I ordered the spring salad(which has "NO" meat in it). I started eating it and found out they had cross contaminated it with a few bacon bits. I think there should be some kind of law against that kind of stuff.

months ago I made pasta sauce and the next day there were two in there. now you think my rich thick yummy looking sauce would immediatly catch my eye, but the first container i opened had sauce in it. and for minutes i contemplated it. poking at it. finally i trid a bit to see if it was mine, put it in my mouth and half a second later i spit it out and washed my mouth otu. ground beef kinda looked the same as my ground beans. i had the flavour in my mouth for a bit. sucked, but im over it. **** happens

My boyfriend and I were at our favorite Chinese place and we ordered the vegetable potstickers. Two bites into mine, I said, "This doesn't seem right." Turns out they had given us the pork ones!

At some restaurant I ordered calzone not realising they had two versions- my mum (also veggie) ordered it as well. So of course it had ham or something in it. We complained- but we still had to pay for the meal- even though the waiter hadn't checked- and we had ordered other things from the veggie menu as well. (my dad had calzone for days after as we did a doddy bag)

[insert Ralph Wiggum voice here] Meat makes me feel funny.

The last time I ate meat was fish, and it didn't go so well. I just can't deal with the stuff anymore. Cheese is starting to do that to me now, I quit a couple months ago, and now if I get a small bite, I have a terrible knot in by gut for 2 days. Oh, well, I'd rather eat a mango anyway.

One time my brother put a tiny piece of pepperoni in my salad. Thinking it was red pepper, I ate it... BLECH! I felt sick for the rest of the day, and I had barely eaten any of the stuff.
