I'm currently doing some research into vegetarianism and it's effect on social life, for my Sociology course. I've just finished off designing the questionnaire, but I'm not entirely happy with it.

I don't suppose anyone knows of any examples of questionnaires on vegetarianism? I'm just looking for a few general questions that I can ask, to "bulk it up" a bit.

Many thanks!

I don't know of any off the top of my head, but why don't you post what you've come up with & we can read it & see what other questions we can think of.

I suppose my main question would be the phrasing of the questions. Are you asking open-ended questions? Yes/No or True/False or maybe the 7-Point Likert Scale format?

Gazumper- I'm an anthro major, and in contact with many soci professors here where I work at the Anthro-soci lab at my University. Post your questionaire (or e-mail it to me) and I will make some suggestions, and/or find you some resources if I can.

Many thanks for all your help...

I've already got the following questions. Some of them are pretty poorly-phrased, mind:

*Age

*Sex

*Which type of vegetarian diet do you follow? (ovo-lacto,lacto,vegan,other)

*What were the reason/s behind your choice to go vegetarian?

*How long have you been vegetarian?

*Are any other members of your family vegetarian?

*If you answered YES to question 7, did any family members actively encourage you to adopt a vegetarian lifestyle or was it down to personal choice?

*If you answered NO to question 7, have any family members attempted to persuade you against going vegetarian?

Are any of your close friends vegetarian?

*If your answer to question 10 was YES, would you say that your vegetarian lifestyle influences the social activities that you and your friends take part in?

*If your answer to question 10 was NO, would you say that your social activities are hindered by your vegetarian lifestyle?

Yeah... it's not all that great. I do have a few other questions but I'm kinda in the middle of rephrasing them

1vegan - I think he's looking for more questions, not answers. Right?

I don't exactly what you're trying to prove but you might want to throw in something about both beneficial and adverse reactions going veg*n has had on your body and mind. Also if your reasons for being veg*n now include reasons that you hadn't considered when you initially went veg*n (a lot of people go veg for health reasons but later include animal welfare among the reasons).

I don't know, that's all I can think of right now.

Have you changed your group of friends since becoming veg?

have you widened your circle of friends to include veggies you didn't know before you were veg?

Has the type of social activity you are active in changed as your diet changed?

More demos, less demos, the same

more activist meetings?

more internet use []

Do you feel your aquaintances take you more seriously, or less seriously, when they find you are a veggie?

What has your secondary research into vegetarianism produced? I don't know of any research on veg*nism from the communications field, but it wouldn't surprise me if anthropology, psychology, and/or physiology had quite a bit already published. You may be able to focus your research better after reading some of what's already been published. Ideally, your research should fill a gap in the previous research. You probably don't want to do the exact same study everyone else has done. What's the point in that? You could just go read what they did.

Have fun! Researching can be a BLAST!

If you share a refrigerator with people who eat differently than you do, do you segregate the refrigerator by who bought the food, what type of food it is (animal/nonanimal), or not at all?
