a raw support thread nice

I thought I'd share my progression, in case anybody else is curious of my experience (I sure wish i'd have known of somebody when i was transitioning)

I've been veg for 12 years, vegan for 10 years, and have been ~100% organic and ~100% non-gmo for a while also. And I've been fruitarian for the last week, and have been adjusting to it for the last few months.

i never get sick. as long as my emotions and situation is fine, my energy is great. i have excellent awareness of my body, and can feel subtle signs it gives.

I started out eating according to the "Becoming Vegan" book. I watched my servings and nutrients, and was always focused on making sure I ate enough.

Then, after a lot of years, I got into longevity science, and was amazed by the consistent results of restricting calories (here are 2)

http://mednews.wustl.edu/news/page/normal/6362.html

http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/art...?artid=1480571

so I started exploring Caloric Restriction.

I also explored juicing. My body weight dropped to Lean in about a week (lost ~8 pounds). During this time of 100% juice diet, my jogging endurance went from 2 minutes to 30 minutes!

I then got interested in grain-free diets, and the 'allure' of fruitarianism. Science on it it very thin... so I just gently explored it on my own... closely listening to how my body felt.

Plus this fruitarian bodybuilder, Richard Blackman, can benchpress 305 pounds.. that gave me added confidence.

http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/article/775

Currently, I'm eating a few pieces of fruit each day (organic, non-gmo) and feel great. Last night I slept for 2-3 hours, and woke up before my alarm clock, feeling energized

So I am eating Very deficiently, compared to the Food Pyramid, or even the Vegan Food Pyramid... however my body is in excellent condition and getting healthier. Dealing with my new amount of energy is now something I need to figure how to do (especially when i work sitting at a 'puter)

However, my body took a long time to adjust to this diet. I think slow and gentle is the way to treat the body, and listening to the signals it gives... never forcing it.

So I just wanted to add a wider perspective to the topic of what food is neccesssary for good health.

Listen to your body closely is the best way, I think. Does you body say "hungry" or "thirsty" or "not really hungry"?

Be mindful to separate bodily hunger, from emotional hunger, or boredom hunger (those are my 2 biggest disguised hungers) or habit hunger, pleasure hunger, social eating, etc.

My current experience is of my body continuing to clean-out itself. When I switch to fruits, my body goes through a process of bringing-up mucous from the previous cooked (or even raw veggie) foods I'd eaten before.

After a couple of days, the amount of mucous is less. The amount is small, about a pecan-amount of dense mucous comes up, and then I also feel to 'hock' and spit out a bit more of thick saliva/phlegm.

I'm also adjusting to the mental and physical affects of fruitarian. There's a ton more energy in my body and my mind is awake and wants movement. This makes it more challenging to sit at the 'puter, or to do any boring tasks. I feel to be outside being active.

And I come into urges for usual habits, like naps or tired-activities (mindless web surfing, or mindless procrastination), and need to replace them with conscious decisions.

well, i find it still varies a bit right now, since I'm still fairly in the beginning of adjusting to all-fruit... and moving away from cooked/etc foods. ..and seeing if this time is the full transition.

today i ate about an organic red delicious apple in the morning, half an org. red delicious later, and a handful of raw almonds/raw pecans.

yesterday i ate about 3 or 4 org. golden delicious apples, and a handful of chocolate (chocolate, sugar, soy lecithin, confectioners glaze, covering roasted almonds. I'm getting raw organic pure cocoa -whew!).

the day before i had i think 1 org. banana, 2 org. golden delicious apple, and a 2 large handfuls of the chocolate almonds.

the day before i had about 4 org. bananas and 4 pieces of matzoh.

and the day before i had about 5 org. bananas.

and about 5 org. bananas the day before that.

I'm planning to continue to explore chocolate, but only raw and organic. I plan to continue to eat some nuts and seeds, my current idea is a few organic raw cashews every once in a while.

I'm also planning to go to the foodstore soon, and get a wider variety of fruits... baby coconuts (for the water and the meat), org. mango, org. melon, org. pears, and a few others.

I do practice with my chakras and meditation, and I feel they affect my food needs.

The "SAD" abbreviation throws me off every time I see. I always think someone's going to be talking about "Seasonal Affective Disorder" rather than the "Standard American Diet". I thought oh cool, a fruitarian diet helped him overcome season affective disorder.

It was nice to hear your story.

Not to be discouraging, but that diet seems woefully lacking in EFAs. Could you incorperate some flax seeds in there? Or avacados(they are a fruit)? There seems to be a serious risk of becoming defecient in areas.

I'm sorry. I'm confused. This really doesn't seem like enough food to make a body run long term. I haven't heard of this before. Can you explain how eating so little, over a long period of time can be good for your body?

I know people do fasting and do okay for a while but eventually they have to give their body what it needs to survive.

Sorry. Just confused.

Agreed. There's not more than 1000 calories there, and generally much less. Coupled with your lack of sufficient sleep, I fear that you are going to face some *significant* long term health issues here. You're missing significant amounts of essential vitamins/minerals by not eating any vegetables/grains. The lack of sleep can cause you to become less able to fight off illness, and if kept up for extended periods of time can even lead to psychological troubles.

I'm glad that you feel well still, but this is NOT a healthy lifestyle. It's just NOT.

hey, I've been 95% + raw for 3 months now. I'm not a fruitarian, I eat greens, nuts, seeds, sprouts and I supplement (spirulina, natures finest, wheat grass etc) too. I found in the begining I ate less cos I was detoxing, but now I'm more active and seem to be building again, my appitite has grown. I have lost a lot of wieght (about a stone and a half) and my energy has grown dramatically. My experince has been that my body has let me know what it needs.

I guess that we all have our own needs, ideals and fears. Who really knows whats right anyway? Life is there to be experimented with, right? So have fun, enjoy and use the amazing wealth of knowledge that we are all fortunate enough to be privy too.

What interesting times we live in.

God bless you all

Ollie

P.S

Thank you all, who have inspired me to take this dramatic, life changing, leap of faith.

I don't think he's starving himself at all....infact I pretty much survive off of fruit juice!!!.....but I can only relate because I've been where he is....he's got a heck of a long ways to go though.....so I can understand how this way of living can seem odd!...but hey....I wouldn't trade it in for anything now!
