Has anyone found any really meaty vegan subsitutions? Also anyone know where in the UK I can buy nut cheeses - and what do they taste like?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Linda McCartney's Sausages - to me they taste like meat.

And I wanted to venture further so I tried Viana's bonanza steaks but my god they were FOUL they didn't even taste nice for substitute - I always say to myself before I eat fake meat that it isn't meat so it's not gonna taste or have the texture of it but they were bland and salty. In fact I wouldn't recommend them to anyone!

I've tried and tried and tried to make seitan and I just don't think I like the gluteny taste (although I still have some gluten wheat left so I'll keep trying till it's gone!)

Has anyone tried vegetarian's choice sausages? They're really cheap at my local health food store (96p for 5) and I was wondering if they're cheap cos they're ming haha.

Thanks for any help you can give me

I live in the UK too-- I used to love Quorn but recently discovered it isn't vegan And there's also Cauldron Foods-- not sure if it is vegan or not, because I haven't had them in a while, but they make really good stuff. I think a lot of supermarkets have "free from" frozen sections, and usually the vegan choices are there, hidden among the vegetarian foods.
I've found some "meatless meat" at Whole Foods, and at health stores... Sorry I can't tell you with certainty what's exactly vegan, because I've been just a vegetarian until about a week ago.

Good luck!

I have tried the gardein and really don't like the texture of it. I am in the US and we don't have Cauldron Foods (that I have seen) but I have found Field Roast Sausages which I haven't tried yet.

I would try Redwood's and Fry's stuff. You should be able to get that in Holland & Barrett. Some of it tastes very much like meat to me. My omni husband agrees.

I particularly like the hot dogs, burgers, schnitzels and the beef style strips.

Vegusto cheeze is also supposed to be very cheesy but I haven't tasted it yet.
