Based on the novels by George R.R Martin, has anyone else been watching the series? I was so relieved that HBO picked it up instead of anyone else, HBO has the money and the time and they usually take great care to stick to the story, which they have done.

Yep, I'm enjoying it. I've heard really good things about the books, so after my Terry Brooks books are read I'll give them a go.

Himself and I have been watching it, but we have to record it and watch well away from bedtime, because I get so angry about how horrible some of the characters are that it keeps me from sleeping.

I love, love, love the books, but the series is leaving me feeling a little... I don't know. Unsatisfied, I guess. It's almost right, but not quite.

But I'm watching it anyway!

Just started watching it tonight and so far it seems interesting.

One thing I'm wondering if anyone here knows - is that real fur they're wearing?

Yes, I LOVE it!

I'm a big fantasy buff, my favourite being LOTR, naturally.

I have to admit, I was cautious about watching Game of Thrones, but a few friends that have read the novels said they were great and that the TV adaptation was very well done.

Over the last few days I watched all 7 episodes, and then watched them AGAIN. It is so epic and awesome! Can't wait for next week's episode.

I read the books (there are four so far, the fifth is coming out in June, with a total of seven predicted in the series [although he originally stated that it'd only be 3 so...]).

Anyways, I really liked the books until the fourth, it was a little disappointing, partly because of how he published.

The series is pretty good. It captures the same essence, but the books are so much more rich in background, feelings, details, etc.

Episode 7 spoilers:

Hmm. I'm bummed-out. That deer looked a little too real,- so I googled - I've read on a few forums some people saying that on an HBO `behind the scenes` video it states that it is real deer.

And, just found out officially that they are wearing real fur.

I don't feel like watching this show any more.

The story line was a bit disappointing in episode 7 too. It seemed to add in a few scenes.

Love the books although I wish Martin would hurry and finish the series lest he goes Robert Jordan on us.

Haven't catch the series yet but I've seen lots of good reviews so I'll have to start watching.

Well, I have just watched this online video - and the writer of the show (DB Weiss) confirms that it was a real deer. He actually applauded the fact that the actor cutting it up (Charles Dance) was able to recite his lines over again as he re-skinned the deer (meaning more than one take - meaning more than one deer).

Hmm, and since there aren't shops that sell fresh dead deer that died naturally then we must assume that those deer were killed-to-order from the production team.

F this show. I'm bailing. If I want to find out what happens I'll just read the books.

I want to read the books but the covers are so damn ugly. Why can't they design decent covers for fantasy novels?

Never judge a book by it's cover. Besides I like the simple covers for the series, it's a refreshing change from the Whalen style covers that many fantasy novels have.

I have started reading the first book and like it. I also liked the show. It was hard to watch the deer scene but I got through it because I told myself it wasn't real. Now that I know that it was an real deer I am disappointed.

Ok I caved, I've started the first book. It's exactly like the show! I want to get ahead as soon as possible to the bits I haven't already seen on telly programme. It's like a soap in book form, very readable and a little too absorbing (not helping my procrastination issues).
