Hey guys. It's been a while since I've had any decent access to the internet. Just thought I'd tell you guys a couple of things that happened this week. First off, while I was at work, I had a carrot with me, a big whole washed yet unpeeled carrot. I was sitting at my kiosk waiting for a customer or whatever when I see something out of the corner of my eye. I looked down and saw a child about the age of 4. He smiled at me and had the cutest expression. I didn't see his parents anywhere. I contacted security to come to my kiosk to help find the kid's parents, in the mean time I had him sit at my desk. He looked up at me and said. "Whassat?" I said what? He pointed to my carrot. I told him it was a carrot and he suddenly reached for it. I looked at him and gave him a part of it, which he ate like he was starving! I ended up giving him the rest of my snack which he ate in it's entirety. XD Soon security came and found his parents. Which is good. :) Anyway yesterday I went to a restaurant in town that is near my school. It's called "Shady's." They have several vegan friendly options on the menu and whatever isn't vegan they make vegan by replacing egg noodles with rice noodles, milk with soy or coconut milk and any meat with tofu. I had the tofu Pad Thai and it was awesoooome. I can't wait to try their eggless fried jasmine rice. :) Finally A place my family AND me can eat.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry about the kid not knowing what a carrot is ...I looked up the restaurant, and it looks good!!
What a cute story! Hopefully that kid will have a lifelong love of vegetables thanks to you. :smitten:

Good for him for eating a carrot!!!! :vebo:

We had some people over last year, & they had a 6 YO kid. I asked him if he wanted some watermelon. He said that he had never tasted it. I gave him a piece & he immediately spit it out. His family eats a lot of processed food & is on a real unhealthy diet. I felt bad, cuz he should be able to enjoy some watermelon in the hot summer.

Fast forward to this summer....he & his brother are still eating a diet that thinks a pepperoni Hot Pocket is a vegetable.....they are both obese & look real fat. I've mentioned it to the Mom, with no real progress.

I was required to eat all my veggies as a kid. I am thankful for that, since I was the only kid eating Brussels sprouts, asparagus, etc. Now I'm a healthy vegan.....no Hot Pockets in my diet.

Teaching kids to eat healthy early in life pays big dividends later on. ;)

It still never ceases to amaze me how kids don't know what vegetables are. I find that a really sad reflection of what today's world is about. It's the same with sugar - don't parent know that sugar is #1 cause of tooth decay and well as a huge part of obesity.... in my country there are a number a T.V. programs that talk about these issues ...... wait ........ think I know ......... too many people prefer to watch Keeping up with...... than programs that educate.
