This week 17-year-old British factory worker Stacey Irvine was rushed to the hospital when she collapsed, struggling to breathe. During the exam, doctors were stunned to learn that Ms. Irvine had never in her life eaten fruit or vegetables; instead she had eaten almost nothing but fast-food chicken nuggets since she was two years old.

I may get stuck on a particular food for weeks at a time, but eventually, I get bored with it and want to move on to something else. Unbelievable that she doesn't even want to try anything else.

Uk teenagers only are required to attend school till 16. Then its their choice to go to college or get a job.

It's not uncommon even in the US for folks to graduate and get a job at 17.

I feel like there is a lot more to the story than we're getting... it feels exaggerated.
And why didn't she go get a job at McD's, think of the money she'd save with an employee discount!!

I had a lot of friends who got their first job at 16, part-time while they were still in high school. I was 17 when I graduated, and got my first full-time job before I turned 18.

I got my first job at age 14 - part time. (Technicially, I had a job at age 12: a paper route.)
I left high school at age 16 (took the proficiency test and left) and then was able to work full time.

The US laws allow children to work, it just restricts the number of hours and types of work they can do depending on their age. Learn more here: http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/youthlabor/

Uhm... Somehow I missed this thread and posted this story in a another thread

Well, anyway I would say that this is child neglect, and that the kid should've been
taken away from her mother when she was little. If anything similar had happened
to a child eating vegetarian/vegan, it would have been all over the news as an example of how extreme those nasty veg*ns are. And her mother probably would
have ended up in prison if this was a case of veg*n malnutrition.

But the fact is that malnutrition probably is
far more widespread among omnies, than among veg*ns.

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/new...-1226255710651

This is a great example of lack of nutrition education, and poor parenting.

Her mom should have stopped feeding her nuggets and taken her to the doctor sooner.
