WfuDeac Panthers are 2-0 in the preseason and look like they're going to be even better this year than they were last year.

Unfortunately, their first few games are a murderer's row:

Home vs Green Bay

Away vs Kansas City

Home vs The Messiah er....Michael Vick and the Falcons

Away vs Denver

Away vs Philadelphia

Bank, Realistically Optimistic Tar Heel . . . .

I was hooked on Buddy Ryan's Eagles.

After that era no team was really entertaining, they were all sub par clones of a conservative offense and defense. bleh.

WfuDeac We didn't lose any seniors from last year, Chris Paul might just be the best player in the country this year, but we have nothing to look forward to?

Be afraid, be very afraid!
08-13-2004 08:04 PM
GhostUser Ohhhh MY, I see you silly Deacs need an asswhuppin', which ain't far off. Hey, I survived that 3 OT game off the big screen, and if I were you I'd be discussing the PAST as well, since the future don't look too bright.

It's been a while since Tim Duncan, you know . . .
08-13-2004 07:58 PM
WfuDeac Noone is scared of Ol' Roy and the Baby Blue Evil Empire. I still remember the 3OT game in Chapel Hole this year, Roy's first ACC loss, at the hands of the Deacons this year.

As for football, Carowhina might actually have a decent football team if they got rid of John (Grimace) Bunting.

Q: How do they separate the men from the boys at Carolina?

A: With a crowbar

You should get your kid into a Rugby team. I just moved to Australia and have come to really like rugby. It is a much faster game the football. They dont stop play when someone gets hurt. very cool

You do know that Ricky Williams "retired" from the NFL because he said he'd rather smoke pot, don't you?

WfuDeac Wake is playing VT on Saturday, October 9th. I have no doubt that there will be more VT fans there than WF fans. We'll try to make you feel at home (In other words, we'll try to put some newspaper down).

Most VT fans (like State and Clemson last year) probably think they'lll roll into Groves and come out with a solid W. I'm looking forward to seeing the inevitable Orange and Maroon hemorrhage leaving our stadium just like State and Clemson last year. This is the ACC. In other words, you won't find any Temple's and Rutger's in our conference.

Bet on Wake to cover the majority of their games this year and you can make some decent money by season's end. Go Deacs!

WfuDeac "BTW, Ricky Proehl's daughter goes to the same academy that my son attends, and he came over to the school and met with the kids and gave out autographs. That was mighty nice of him. It made a real impression."

Not surprising, considering that he's a Deac!

soilman Well then I mus be a girl cause I lurrrve soccer. Playing it that is. I don't undertand why anyone would want to watch someone else playing it. I'd be jealous cause they are having all the fun and I am just watching. Even worse would be watching it on TV. That would really be depressing.

MikeyVT MY favorite contact sport is lacrosse personally (having played it through high school). Unfortunatly well you know there is nothing like the fall for spending weekends doign absolutly nothing constructive. Unless oyu call manajoring your fantasy team constructive.
08-12-2004 08:59 AM
Red I like football. In fact nearly every morning, when I get out of bed, I still have a flood of vivid memories from the time I played.

Yawn, stretch, crack, ouch, pop, ouch, creak, ouch.

soilman Why is this in the men's forum? I thought football was for girls?
08-12-2004 07:42 AM
Trent Steele I'm a little confused as to why anyone needs to point out that they don't like football in a thread that is clearly aimed at people who do like football. But hey that's just me.

GO TERPS!!!
08-12-2004 07:38 AM
soilman I have no interest in football. I learned how to play it as a kit; I tried watching people play it. Watching it lulls me to sleep. I don't understand how anyone can pay attention without falling asleep.

MikeyVT Sometimes Tame i wonder if you even actaully read peoples post of jsut find sentances you disagree with.

I allready said several times that a lot of our succes this year is going to hing on our young talent. Go back and actaully read my posts.

Keep looking. That home field advantage has placed you squarely at 4th place in the BE the last two seasons.

A few years back, VT had some intimidation factor on their side. It is long gone.

Even if you had a home field advantage, it couldn't make up for the losses of experienced players you have on both sides of the ball.

Coming out the spring game, Beamer himself said the job was up for grabs. Based on the spring game oerformance by Vick versus Randall, one can see why.

USC - yeah thats a given they should destroy everyone this year if Willaims gets reinstated

Okay.

WVU - thursday night at home against our rival...our fans will be out in full force and we will win

Um, yeah. Like you whipped them in 2002 at home?

Oh, and the game is currently scheduled as October 2. A Saturday.

How did that home field advantage help against Pitt in the last couple of years?

Based on your 11-10 record in the BE over the last 3 seasons, and your losses on both lines...I just can't see the optimism.
08-11-2004 12:59 PM
MikeyVT and i am not geting into a discussion about our team being "crimials" because labeling us that shows your lack of respect.

Miami - most likely will beat us as they will win the division

VA - will be close but hopefully we will win this rivalry for the 4th time in 5 years

Wake - will be a hard game..coming into their home on a thursday night

NC State - kill me all

I never said it would be easy. But honestly a lot of it hinges on our young LBers and ill be looking for more punt blocks this year now that we wont be setting up for D. Hall to return it.

If you feel like the Lone Ranger, then just call me Tonto. Played it 6 years. For me the most redeeming quality about football (on TV) is that it's a good excuse to lay on the coach on a Sunday afternoon and drink beer with your friends. Then again, this holds for most pro sports.

Well, there are the two others arrested with Vick, the two others kicked off the team this spring/summer for other transgressions, the recruit from North Carolina (Council?) arrested for stealing electronic equipment...

I can also delve into VT history with the rampant rapes and so forthe back in the 90s...

BTW, just so you know, D-1A football teams have 85 scholarships.

Most fans are predicting a 9 win season for us. I however think we could be better if a few thigns come together...mainly the young talent we have needs to show what they can do and we will be on a good track to make it what...11 STRAIGHT bowl games.

Who is predicting 9 wins that has a football IQ above room temperature? C'mon. You lost Vick, have some other suspensions, your starting tailback broke his leg last spring, you are returning no one who was All Big East last season (I think 8-9 players with those honors left), and you have a tough schedule this year.

Why are you going to be better than last year? You lost your best players.

USC and WVU are on your OOC slate. USC will whip your ass, and WVU will follow up on the last two games and make it 3 in a row.

Throw in Miami (away), Virginia, and Maryland in a e game stretch, along with NC State and Wake and I don't see 9 wins unless you get a poopload of breaks.
