And I, I have a big round belly too, and large sagging breasts, and I KNOW I have cellulite, and scars and strech marks all over my body. I have literally several feet of scars all over from various surgeries, accidents and mishaps...the longest is 19.5 inches long and up to an inch wide in spots.

But you know what? I think I'm beautiful too. I think I'm beautiful because I think I'm a good person. I believe that I have inner beauty, and I believe it shines through.

I believe my large size is evidence of a generous nature and a thousand years of my ancestresses working hard. (Not all my size is flab, I am also very thickly muscled, but it all LOOKS like flab, LOL) My wiggly jiggly arms fit perfectly around someone who needs a hug, and my shoulders are wonderfully padded for crying or leaning on.

My scars and stretch marks are evidence of my strength in the face of adversity, evidence of a life that was actually LIVED. I'm about to turn 30, and I'm starting to show some wrinkles around my eyes, and I'm adding those in to my list of assets. My wrinkles will show the world that I smile more than I frown.

I have a big gap in my front teeth that I used to get teased about constantly. Now I like it. It gives my face character, it makes me different and unique, and it makes my smile memorable. As a kid I rarely smiled with my teeth showing, now I flash toothy grins everywhere, and you know what? They're contagious. People smile back. So that too, is part of my beauty.

I like my nose, even though it's tiny and kind of a "stub nose". I like it because it's funny, and I can smash it flat without hurting it, because I have very little cartilage in it. It's a fun party trick, and a fun way to make a couple bucks on bets. LOL

I like my lips because of the effect they can have on my loved ones when I touch them with them.

I like my eyes, because when I smile my big toothy grin, I'm told they sparkle.

I like my hair...it's long and straight and turquoise blue. Tomorrow it might be green, or red, or purple.

I like my skin, because it always heals. I've been poked, prodded, sliced open, tattooed, pierced, torn up, scraped up and you-name-it, and yet my skin always miraculously heals, sometimes leaving a scar behind as evidence, sometimes not.

I like my feet, even though they look a little funny. They're short and wide and hard to find shoes to fit, and calloused from spending 99% of my time barefoot. But without my feet I would never know the earthy joys of squishing my toes into mud.

I even like my bad hip and back, even though they cause me pain on a daily, chronic basis. They have taught me humility, and empathy, and that sometimes going slow opens more opportunities than going fast.

But most of all, I like my hands. They can be hard and powerful when I need to work, or soft and gentle when I'm cradling a baby. They can express my emotions, and sometimes they even can produce artwork.

Aw, I felt so good reading that. I really love the positive things people have to say about their bodies in this thread...we're none of us supermodels.

This may inspire me to feel more confident.

cryingdyingrose I like...hmmm

1. I love my breasts, i used to hate them because i was the only 'developed' one in my group. But its just fun to look like a saloon whore sometimes.

2. My lips, they're just so soft and lovely.

3. My cheeks, they're naturally rosy so i never need to use blush

4. My calves that look damn fine in a skirt

5. My wacky sense of humour (i'm a card)

6. My brain, its got me pretty far

7. My neck and collarbone, for some reason whenever my bf kisses it, our just caresses it i get SO turned on! (weirdness)

8. My smile, because apparently it looks very natural when i pose for pictures. And after spending thousands of dollars on it i should cherish it.

luepkk I think it has EVERYTHING to do with attitude; cheesy but true in my opinion. When I was in high school, my friend who "got the most guy's attention" (which was a big thing in high school) was overweight by today's standards, had bad acne that was poorly covered with make-up and she was really, really short. But she believed that she was absolutely gorgeous and she had confidence to spare! (but she wasn't snotty or rude) Boys loved her and girls like me wanted to be her! Oh, and her hair was so frizzy, but she was cool so it didn't matter.

Following that example and memory, here's my list:

1. I like my smile, that makes me appear approachable (and besides, my mom spent thousands of dollars on braces)

2. I like my long legs/height, it's my signature and what people usually notice first about me (in the physical sense).

3. I like my eyes... because I like to think they look like tiger's eyes... grrrrrrrr!

4. I like my hands, because they work well and can look good (when I get the dirt out from under the nails from gardening)

5. I like my face, because it's better than not liking my face and it's me.

IamJen V4, these are valid feelings that you have, but they don't belong in this thread.
02-15-2005 04:50 PM
GhostUser I don't like my body. My face is the only good thing about my body, and I have really bad acne on my chin, so...

Maybe these apply to you, too:

1. Flabby belly that covers a well-functioning stomach. My stomach lets me know when I've been eating healthy food and is polite enough not to make loud sounds at rude times.

2. Thighs with cellulite that help carry me around to where I need to be.

3. Jiggly arms that hug little sisters, beloved nursing home residents, and countless friends. I've always said that large, "soft" people can be so much more comforting to hug. It's like getting a hug from Mom as opposed to getting a hug from a flagpole. (No offense to any "flagpole thin" people!)

4. Oddly-shaped behind that performs all its functions without complaint--sitting, holding things together when standing/walking, and releasing BMs (at the right times).

5. Breasts that may not be the current "ideal", but who cares about what they think? The padding and ribcage help protect really important organs like my heart and lungs. And someday, I'm sure my husband will find my breasts quite interesting.

VegKitten84 1. My hair is really soft and long and shiney, I love it.

2. My legs look absolutely stunning when I'm wearing stillettoes. Very hot.

3. I love my big jiggly butt. Very womanly

4. I have nice collar bones.

5. My face is pretty.

AngelOfDance 1. I like my hair. It's been through a lot. It's exciting to me when I find that my hair has grown long enough to do something new with it (or something that I used to do when it was long) like put it in braids or whatnot. My sister thinks I should dye it blonde with highlights, but I like it the way it is. Sort of sandy blonde.

2. I like my collarbones

3. my hips. They're not pretty, but they're very flexible. Good for dance.

4. my freckles and my ears. I'm putting these in the same category because I like them for the same reason: When people notice them, they always seem to think that freckles and tiny ears are the cutest thing ever.

5. my fingers. I have long, slender, pianist's fingers (only I've finally quit piano! yay! I hated piano!) that are also very flexible and I can do all sorts of weird and wonderful hings with them. I think I also have more muscle control in my fingers than many people have, which allows me to do certain tricks.

this is strictly rumor.

misq17 Hell, I'll make a list too!

1. My calves are nice, I just like them

2. My hair is pretty and dark brown and shines red in the light

3. My toes are well proportioned XD

4. My brain works very well, I like it a lot.

5. My fingernails are strong, healthy, and a nice color even if they aren't painted

misq17 Well, if you insist on being negative (although I'm sure there is something good about your body) hike your butt over to the gym and work out!
02-14-2005 09:28 PM
Jinga Since this seems to be off to a slow start, I guess I'll go ...

make a list of your favourite 5 features of your body

1) I like my green eyes. In my worst moments I've stared into them and seen the person hidden inside. Windows to the soul, they are.

2) I like my back. Its just a milky white softness ... of sorts.

3) My brain. It sometimes gives me trouble, but it works pretty good.

4) My heart. Ditto to above.

5) My vulva. Its very cute. Kinda hard not to like.

That is what gets up really negative body images. There must be something you like about your body. Your eyes? Hair? Skin color? Anything?

Here are some ideas:

1. make a list of your favourite 5 features of your body

2. Women's bodies are wonderful and can do wonderful things

3. Look in the mirror naked and tell yourself you're wonderful

4. Get past the idea that vaginas are yucky. They are amazing and self-cleaning. Let's not give into the idea that we need to douch or do anything to 'eliminate odour'. Vaginas are fabulous!!!!!!

I don't like my body. It's subpar.
