Mr. H. I live in California. and a lot of milk her gets exported to nearby states. And California cheese goes everywhere. so it's not just Californians that don't drink as much milk.

Milk consumption per capita has been on the decline for decades. Only the increase in population has kept milk production steady or increasing (that and cheese). A lot of the decrease in milk consumption has to do with children's' drinking habits. They tend to drink more soda.

Milk prices are also heavily regulated so that can be a problem. Although the milk industry is also heavily subsidized.

The drought really hurt a lot of dairies. Milk production is very water intensive. hundreds of gallons of water are necessary to produce a gallon of milk.

One story that seems to be telling is that right in the middle of the drought dairy farmers have planted almond orchards. And its not like almonds aren't water intensive. Using the most modern and conservation irrigation. And almond demand is going thru the roof. I suppose some of his almonds become almond milk. I'm sure there is some kind of message there.

Vlady That is great that people in California care about themselves so well so they do not drink milk .

Western FarmPress: Dairy industry struggling in California

An interesting article from the Western FarmPress: California dairies are in financial trouble! http://www.westernfarmpress.com/dair...fornia-dairies

Interesting quote from the article:

"Until the dairy industry becomes more savvy with marketing, and can improve demand and better respond to the drive towards plant-based proteins by others in U.S. agriculture and abroad, it’s days are numbered."
