The 3 best cheeses I've had are
1. Daiya cheddar block (makes an amazing grilled cheese). It's a completely different taste from their shreds.
2. Miyoku's vegan mozz. It melts and it browns, amazing. If it wasn't so expensive I would make pizza with it every day.
3. Chao creamy slices

|Werewolf Girl||I don't mind the Daiya pizza, it reminds me of the weird cafeteria pizza we had in school. My only real complaint with it is the gluten free crust, it's too thin and hard and chewy.|

Have you tried the blocks?
Daiya should really get rid of the shreds and change up the pizza. The block munster in delicious on pizza! I also hated the crust

|Iridium||Omg I had a Daiya pizza it nearly killed me. Please no. Never again. I felt terrible, it tasted terrible, I almost was physically ill. The crust and sauce where great , but this Daiya cheese stuff is horrid i'm sorry. And the fake pepperoni where the saltiest things I have ever eaten, I had to remove them. It may be vegan but I think its worst for you then dairy cheese and real pepperoni.|

Daiya blocks are completely different from shreds!
I like the Havarti jalepano, and monterey jack a LOT. I also like the cheddar! I find the blocks are as good cold as melty
The shreds I only liked for a grilled cheese- and not the moz at all
I've done cashew moz and find it ok for a sauce, but I can't get the taste right. Like when I use cashews I can't get the right nooch taste. I love nooch sauces- with lemon, miso and garlic

I had Daiya mozzarella cheese on a pizza years ago. And i thought it ruined the pizza. Judging by your question, I'm guessing they have a new version. and that I haven't tried yet.
I have been making my own Mox-arella with cashews and its been pretty good.
but i just heard that there is a new company called Miyoko Kitchen, that has a line of vegan cheeses including a mozzarella. I'm looking forward to trying that.

I'm an absolute fan of the vegusto cheeses, only ones i consider close to real cheese, far above daiya. + they are gluten free. For pizzas they have a cheese sauce so no problems with melting. Mix it with small chunks of their other cheese and tadaaaaa !

Maybe you should start a new thread on this, as this one is pretty old and a slightly different topic.
There is a thread on this book over at the PPK. I haven't bought the book mostly because people seem to be having a lot of trouble with mold growing on their cheese, which makes me think the method hasn't really been tested in a variety of home kitchen conditions. But we'll see. I am highly intrigued.

I haven't either, but have copied a recipe from the "look inside" feature. Not complex, just takes time for ingrediants to ferment.
ALL the reviews are 5 star. Ones that aren't are complaining about kindle format.

|LedBoots||I recently tried Daiya and really like it. I haven't tasted cow milk cheese in years, so I can't give a good comparison, but the mozzarella Daiya is great on pizza, and the pepperjack on tacos.|

I like it, but only really every once in a while (like once a month, if that)...I get tired of that strong flavor really fast. It definitely has a unique flavor, though...I would say it tastes vaguely "cheese-like". Texture is not at all like cheese when melted, it's a bit too sticky for that, even though it does melt well.
Not a big fan of the cheddar variety, but I do like the mozzarella on pizza, in grilled cheese, in macaroni and cheese, on baked potatoes sometimes. Meh. Really I'd rather just not try to replicate cheese at all--it tends to actually make me have cravings for the real thing once I've had it, not get rid of them.

Ah cheese. One day a vegan cheese will exist that tastes like cheese. How can it be so difficult in this technological age? I'm sure if there were more vegans in existence and far greater profits to be made we would have a fantastic vegan cheese in no time! I hasten to add I have not tried Daiya and do not know if it is available in the UK. I see there is Facebook page to try and get it here!!

I wanted to like Daiya but found it gross. The texture is just not right and it had a faint, grayish cast to it (I used the mozzarella on my pizza). I ended up eating some it and gagging on it. The texture is just too gluey. I picked most of it off so I could enjoy the otherwise tasty pizza without the gagging.

|Lost Patrol||I use it on pizza all the time. Like one user said, don't pour it on the crust, just sprinkle it lightly over the pizza and then add your favorite toppings and its fantastic.|

It is good on pizza, if you broil it for about 2 minutes, right at the end.
It's really good in grilled cheese sandwiches, cheddar or mozzarella and tomatoes, or basil.
I don't like it at all in mac and cheese. It seems "gluey".

Teese was like eating a stick of butter to me. And it melted and made a big pool of water on the pizza.
Daiya tastes much better to me, melts nicely and is by far the best vegan cheese I've tried.
I think it's a largely subjective thing though. There are people on VB who love Teese. There are others who love Vegan Gourmet. And there are others who love other kinds I've probably not seen or heard of. No one food is going to appeal to 100% of the populace at all times.
