Entrepre Whats the problem with raw coconut water? or coconut milk? I mean water is good and all, but why not add a little taste?

I' m share if I understand you right. You do raw lifestyle and drink only water, no tea or herbal tea or juices?

In terms of health diet is just as bad or worse because of artificial sweeteners. I'll only drink "diet" if it is sweetened with stevia, but I don't drink much soda anymore to make up for my consumption in youth. I used to to drink so much diet soda, and when I realized all the problems with it, I decided to only drink sugar sweetened sodas, like Mexican Coke or Jones Soda, since the majority of mainstream American soft drinks have HFCS.

As I understand it, anything acidic is bad for tooth enamel: very sour fruit, seltzer (carbonic acid is what makes it fizz), sour juices... even tooth decay results from acidic wastes bacteria make when they digest sugars. (Ew.)

One thing my dentist told me: don't brush your teeth immediately after drinking something acidic, like orange juice, because the tooth enamel has been temporarily softened by the acid and will be more vulnerable to damage from the brush. DO rinse your mouth well with plain water to get rid of any traces of acid, but brush your teeth about 20 minutes later.

(On the other hand, he IS a dentist... and advice which would make me damage my teeth would be major income for him...). JUST KIDDING.

EDITED TO ADD: I should have read the comments above about not brushing immediately before pounding the keyboard with redundance.

ETA again: I drink water almost exclusively, but confess that I do like juices, either sweet or quite sour. I rinse with a drink of water immediately afterward though.

Naturebound I drink other stuff besides water, mainly coffee, tea, plant milks, and homemade smoothies. I haven't had soda pop since 2008 and very rarely drink OJ or apple juice (like twice a year). I love my plant milks and coffee and will not give them up entirely.

I have excellent skin, and I look about 15 to 20 years younger than my 43 years. I also have rarely if ever worn makeup or perfume/cologne. For years I have avoided soaps, detergents, creams, lotions, and hair products with tons of chemicals alcohols and dyes. I opt for simple coconut based soap (Kirks Castile bar soap), Dr. Bronner's Fair trade liquid soap, essential oils, vinegar, water etc. My dishwashing soap is plant based but does have a few more ingredients, though sometimes I simply wash with very hot water since I don't use a lot of oil or heavily processed food so cleaning is easier.

Coffee is my one really bad habit I can't give up just yet. So far my teeth are still in excellent shape, though lately I broke an eight year perfect dental checkup streak with a small patch of decay on my bridge (that I have had for over 22 years). I have to go back in and have that patched. I haven't had a cavity in a decade. I used to have all kinds of problems with my teeth growing up. I am fortunate that I have never had issues with my skin, and have always looked young for my age, but i like to think eating healthier and using fewer chemicals and no makeup has made a difference too. Strangely, in the years I have been vegan, my skin has darkened slightly and I rarely burn, even when I am out canoeing on open water, or snowshoeing across fields, or cycling to and from work. I rarely wear sunblock, though I am not outside THAT much. I do wear long sleeve shirts and/or hat with a bill/sunvisor etc. Heck, mosquitoes are so thick up here, and weather doesn't get all that warm, that protecting your skin is a given lol.

I drink an ungodly amount of coffee though, especially in the last six months working 50 and more hours per week and stressed out. I would love to eventually cut out the coffee altogether. I don't know though, I love the taste of it too. :/

BTW, I am not raw, though I have done fully raw for short periods of time in the past.

no whey jose Yeah, she suggested that I not brush my teeth soon after meals and that I cut down on sparking water. I used to drink at least a 2 litre bottle of sparking water a day, all day. I even kept a glass of it by my bed every night! I was certainly brushing my teeth immediately after drinking it. I'm surprised I wasn't rinsing my toothpaste with it, I used it so much! 😱

Kiwibird08 I'm a mostly raw vegan, so I consider some of my large smoothies and juices a meal in and of themselves rather than a drink. If I am eating other food (like a salad or zoodles ext...) I almost never drink anything but water with them and I drink a lot of water without food throughout the day. If I don't drink enough water, I get tired and spacey.

silva Isn't enamel erosion only an issue if brush your teeth too soon after acidic drinks or foods?
You can't avoid it, but it does soften it for a time, and my dentist always said wait like 20 minutes before brushing

I was once watching a show about how much sugar is in everything. And they were talking about sports drinks, like gatorade and powerade. And apparently these drinks have SO much sugar in them, that on the gatorade website in small print it says something like "We recommend you drink this by pouring it straight down your throat". It actually says that so it bypasses your teeth. It's horrible how much sugar is in it.

I'll never be at risk of this then, as ever since I was a kid I've hated the taste of sparkling water, or any unflavoured carbonated water with a passion. So I only ever drink still water. But I do admit that it's a bit of a surprise, I wouldn't have thought it would be so bad for your teeth. But I guess when you think about it, the process to carbonate it is pretty unnatural, so it doesn't surprise me that it's pretty acidic.

At my last dental appointment, I discovered that the enamel on my teeth is worn, which was a surprise because I don't drink much fruit juice or other sugary or highly acidic drinks, only water. As it turns out, plain sparkling water (of which I drank a LOT) is acidic enough to corrode enamel. All carbonated drinks are, sugary or not. I had no idea! Who would have thought?

LedBoots I drink mostly water. Also orange juice. That's about it, I don't like coffee or tea except herbal rarely. I squeeze a lemon into hot water sometimes and drink that.

Crouton For about 2 years now, I've basically only drunk water. I don't drink tea, coffee, juices or anything else now. The only exception is maybe 1 or 2 home made fruit smoothies a week. And this is coming from someone who used to be addicted to high sugar fruit juices, sports drinks and soft drinks.

And honestly, if I'm telling the truth, even after two years of drinking almost only water I haven't really noticed a change at all. If anything I think I'm more thirsty all the time. My skin is the same as it's always been.

Even though I may not notice it, I'm hoping the change is in the health of my teeth. Now that they aren't being bathed in sugar every day. My last dentist trip was positive so I'm thinking that's where my biggest positive effect from water is.

spaveg I'm 100% raw vegan since 3.5 years ago and I do drink water when I'm thirsty.
I'm not avoiding to drink water, as I understand some raw foodists do.
