erilol Not all fig trees do, and the wasp argument is a red herring.

IsoDope Fig trees don't necessarily kill wasps. Some species of wasp lay their eggs in the fig fruit, the baby wasps eat the fruit until they are old enough to go out on their own. They then break out of the fruit and continue their life cycle, which includes being a pollinator for the fig tree.

The only unvegan part about eating a fig is if there happen to still be baby wasps in it. Idk about you but I wouldn't want to eat that fig even if I wasn't vegan.

Naturebound I eat figs. There is no exploitation of animals that goes into figs (no more than any other fruit/vegetable). I have come across this before and when I just googled "are figs vegan" now I got all kinds of information. Here are just a few articles that explain it well:

jessandreia I don't like figs. I didn't even know about this, but now reading about it, there is nothing wrong with eating figs. It's a natural process the tree does. It's not like it's a human being killing them.

River I love figs. Figs with vegan yoghurt, figs with agave syrup, fig jam, OMNOMNOMNOM.

Opinions on figs? Someone asked me today if I eat figs, I thought it was a strange question because I happen to not have had a fig since I was a child. I forgot about how fig trees kill wasps. I'm not sure how I feel about this- I certainly wouldn't go buy figs for myself but if I were out and about... Any thoughts on the ethics of eating figs?

I searched for an old thread but nothing came up- must be a problem with my computer because this must have come up before.
