QiTian hey Anna Leven! Sorry, I didn't notice this question earlier! Sounds interesting, do you think you can find a picture online of what the sauce looked similar to? If you can I'm sure I could try and whip it up, it sounds similar to the Chinese 'brown sauce' that they put on a lot of things.

Keep meaning to mention - I had to give my blog a makeover as GoDaddy stopped supporting their blogging software.

Moved over to WordPress now, it was a lot of hard work but I'm much happier with it now :D And it gave me the kick up the bum I needed to get around to designing my logo!


(mostly recipes with a few reviews / misc posts)

I really appreciated the "World Food" section of your blog! I have a question to you: in Texas I tried an AMAZING sauce I have no idea what the name can be. It is something like Chinese sweet-sour one, but more on a sweet side and it is also brown but darker. Do have an idea about what can it be and how to make it? :) Thank you!

Thanks for sharing your blog Sarah!  Those recipes look fantastic!  I really love the beet recipes and it's perfect timing as I have more beets in my garden than I know what to do with.  I never even though of making the beet roasted hummus.  I bookmarked your blog.  I shouldn't have looked at this thread since I am supposed to be studying for an exam lol.  I will be returning.

everblue1037 Love that i found your blog making the cabbage rolls next week. Been craving cabbage for weeks and the fiances is going out of town next week (he hates cabbage the smell as well) so making it just for me. I will be trying out a few things on there looks great. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the appreciation Qitian. Actually I was thinking to add that recipe, but it requires some special soy bean sauce which is normally only available in China, so I gave it up.

QiTian Haha, I know that it translates as Red Sauce from the Chinese - but on all the menu's in China the English underneath always said Brown Sauce and I never knew why I looked up dasheen and I think it is another word for taro. However, I think that more people would have heard of taro than dasheen - so you may want to include both in your recipe.

veggiez Well is taro more common than dasheen? Actually I haven't heard any of them, just checked dictionary and selected word dasheen to use, hehe... Brown sauce? Hmm actually in Chinese it's red sauce, but brown sounds more close to the real color of the dish, hehe... Thank you for the information, maybe I will edit my blog for the better and commoner, hehe

QiTian Yeah the pic looks like what I used to eat - I'll have to give it a go and see if it reminds me of home in Hangzhou. I've never heard the word dasheen before though! We translate it as 'Braised Taro in Brown Sauce'.
