|Fruitemma||Sprouts is my favorite store. The produce section is actually pretty inexpensive. Their dates are the best I've ever had and only $5 for a big box! Also, they have the best quality bananas. I always buy a 40lb box for around $20 from them.|

Produce at WM is the same as anywhere else--I've been to 4 or 5 so far.

I've been shopping at the Chandler Sprout's for years, and periodically compare their prices to Fry's/Safeway/Albertson's. Sprout's produce is 60% the price of the others, usually fresher and the organic section is several times larger. Sprout's is also the only store where you can also buy beans, nuts, and seeds in bulk- usually at very reasonable prices.
The cooked food at most stores is pretty low quality, and tends to contain rancid vegetable oils and added sugars. Much better to make your own anyway, unless you have extenuating circumstances.
How is the produce at Walmart? Is it fresh? Do they sell organic?

I've checked out Frye's, Sprouts and Walmart so far.
Walmart had the best prices by far of any grocery store I've ever been in, anywhere. I don't like the company for other reasons though. They did have several vegetarian-oriented items, such as a nice variety of meat substitutes.
Frye's was ok, prices comparable to Upstate NY...but when you can get so much more for your $ at Wally World...
Sprouts seemed nice and had some really decent prices on some items ($1 avocados!), while other prices were comparable to Frye's.
Disappointing was the veggetable takeout items. They have prepared meals in the deli you can just heat up and eat at home. Several were non-meat, like tamales, bean burrito with rice, etc.--and all 4 I checked contained either lard or "chicken base". That really sucks. For a spot that targets the vegetarians as one of their main customer groups, it's odd to hide meat-based ingredients in non-meat entrees. I get it that lard is traditional but there are acceptable alternatives. And "chicken base"? Why! So unnecessary.
