OutofLimits If the populations were a serious problem I doubt sending a ton of dogs and people trampling through the countryside to inefficiently rip apart a fox is an effective method. I'm sure a humane eradication would be much more efficient, and I'm not even convinced that's necessary in a predator animal like a fox...predator animals whose dwindling numbers recreational shooters use as an excuse to hunt out of control prey animals.

Annia Typical DM article.

It's not out of any desire for "pest control" that the hunters want it back. It's bloodlust, pure and simple. They can still go out with the dogs and go drag/trail hunting but then there have been cases where the trail setters have deliberately set the trail through areas which they know have high fox populations so the dogs might catch the scent of a real fox.

But the whole tradition argument is a complete and utter load of bollocks. I've had debates about this at college (it's an agricultural and animal college ) and all the pro-hunters kept coming back to the tradition argument when I rebuked all their other arguments.
I won. My response to it." Well, firstly, there is no law against dressing up and going out on horses with a pack of dogs. Trail hunting is still perfectly legal the only thing that is different is that there's no bloodlust. Secondly, talking about tradition; it used to be a tradition to hang a goose from a tree by its legs, grease it's neck with butter or lard and then all the young men of the area would ride underneath the goose trying to pull its head off. Whoever managed it got to keep the goose. That was a tradition that went on for as long as fox hunting has so do you want to bring that back as well? "

They all looked suitably disgusted and tried to weakly come back with "But it's tradition".

Don't try to argue in favour of fox hunting with me.

(Also had people try to tell me (on the internet) that I obviously live in a city because if I lived in the countryside I would be pro-hunting. Oh really? So I don't live in one of the most rural counties in England then? )
