GhostUser There is a chinese vegetarian restaurant at 3068 Main Street. Used to be the Bo Kong, but the names been changed (can't remember new name) and the food is very good. I came across the following link too, which names several Buddhist restaurants in Vancouver. One is called Nyala in Kits. and then there is Miu Jay Garden Vegetarian Restaurant in Vancouver, and Surat Sweet Restaurant on West 4th Avenue which I believe is Indian. I live in Nova Scotia, and I don't think the word vegan has even made it to this corner of the country. Totally sad. Eating out here means lots of french fries and salads (please don't grate cheese all over them!). I envy you.

I second Lotus Pond, it was our favourite place when we were hungry for greasy Chinese-style food.

theLaika I don't really know about mock-meat but I think the Naam deserves a mention for being recommendable for even meat-eater friends.

affidavit This isn't Vancouver either, but in Victoria if you're ever on island, there's a restaurant called Lotus Pond. It's buddhist/vegan. I've only tried their mock chicken, but it's amazing. It doesn't taste exactly like chicken, but it tastes like it actually is whatever it is, not like fake or anything. I think they make it there. The texture's really good. If you're here, try it, the restaurant's right downtown, and the Lemon Mock Chicken is good. It's also gluten-free, though not all their dishes are.

Looking at their menu (I've been considering getting takeout tonight, that's why I'm so enthusiastic, I'm hungry), they also have beef, seafood (fish and shellfish), pork, chicken balls (as opposed to cutlets), duck cold cuts, and lots of non-'meat' dishes. Veggie ones or ones with tofu or whatever.
I'm pretty sure they make their mock meats themselves.

I also like Foundation in Vancouver, but I've never tried their mock meats.

phatrabbit OK, technically, this place is in Burnaby. But its amazing. Its called the Paradise Vegetarian Noodle House. They have a TON of vegan meat replacements, and they're all super tasty. Its pretty affordable too.

StacyLevene Hi,

I am interested in trying the best types of vegan meat available in vancouver (for a reasonable price of course)

I want to know what restaurants serve the best meat dishes (I'm not looking for buying bulk, just eating out)

I've heard of a couple. Po Kong and the Whole Vegetarian restaurant were recommended, but I can't find a lot of reviews on them. Which one is better than the other? Are there even better options elsewhere? What meat dish do you absolutely recommend?

Again, I'm not looking for fancy gourmet foods, just chicken, steak, and other meat dishes. All I want is that they taste gooood
