I too am not super vegan I guess.  I don't understand that some people treat it like an allergy.  I think it is ethically worse to insist that their be separate oils, more waste that way.  I do it mostly for health and environment so for me it makes more sense.

thank you!! im glad im not the only one out there who isn't extreme anti contamination

Even if an animal based broth isn't used, they're still using the same oil that's used to cook the fish. That's enough for me to avoid it completely.

HNV A word of caution. When I contacted the Rubios near me, they told me that the spanish rice uses a veggie broth for cooking, however, the oil they use to fry is the same oil they fry their fish in before hand. I would check with the individual location first, I imagine it probably varies.

Bret It this due to the cheese they sprinkle on the beans? I've never seen a bean recipe that called for any dairy to be added to it... lard yes, but never dairy. I don't get it... for tasty beans, all you need is tons of garlic, some salt, and that's it. Everything else like cumin, oregano, chipoltes, etc are optional and just make it different, but not better. I don't get why some recipes call for lard in beans?

Shamandura I went to Rubios website out of curiosity and under the allergy information, the Healthmex veggie burrito has dairy in it. The ingredients don't list what that might be, possibly the wheat tortilla?

Shamandura Cool, i've been meaning to try out Rubios, but wasnt sure how vegan friendly it would be. Thanks!

gingerlove since i have been working at rubios the past half a year or so i have discovered great off menu vegan options.

so i thought maybe i would share with you guys my yummy knowledge!

first there is a new burrito on the menu that is vegan friendly! no modifying or anything!

that would be the health mex veggie burrito. its got rice black beans roasted chipotle salsa and salsa fresca in it.

the next closest vegan freindly burrito is the veggie burrito

you would wanna ommit :chimi churi sauce, chz, and the sour cream. but you can ask to sub avocado slices or guacamle in place of the dairy

you can do the same thing with bean burrito , just ask for no chz, sub guac.

feel like nachos? order the guac and chips and ask to sub more guac for the cojita chz and add extra benans and fresca!!

also if you order a side of beans, they come with cojita chz on them, so be sure to ask for no chz on them.

another tidbit of information, in any burrito or even on the guac and chips, extra rice, beans or..pretty much everything but the guac and dairy, meat products is FREE!! so you an make a super bean burrito by adding extra rice and our fave salsa (and subbing the guac)

hope this helps you guys when ordering at rubios
