dbach This board is great, very new to vegetarianism, (only been weeks) but after reading (haven't finished it yet) the China Study decided to make some healthy choices.

If anyone else is from CB is it just me or is there very limited selection here unless choosing raw, all most all of the time?

Thanks,

Darryl

martino Umm, I'm teaching! I just got back yesterday from Cape Breton

arcane All right my peeps from NS, what is going on with ya'll?
03-03-2009 06:09 PM
martino Well, maybe you can ask the tattooist to make an amalgam of Schroeders to make what you want! And there's nothing wrong with being a nerd I'm a big Calvin & Hobbes nerd myself

We had a book fair at work last week and I took a quick look, only found one picture and he was in his baseball uniform which is not what I want. I'll probably check out book stores as well I love peanuts and would want to keep the books. I'm a nerd like that.

I haven't got it done, gotta save my money. I know what I want, it just about actually saving up for it. And I can't find a decent reference picture of Schroeder (from peanuts) to save my life, well one where he is standing up, not at his piano. (I'm getting Lucy and Schroeder as growing up we labeled different peanuts characters as members of our family and Lucy is my mom and Schroeder is my dad).

martino Yeah, I don't remember many places on the island for organic produce, other than what you can find in the grocery stores...though I did enjoy the PEI Green Party's idea to make the whole island organic! It'd be great, but it would be a long time before that ever happened.

For organic food around Halifax, Planet Organic is probably the place to hit; they've got plenty of organic produce, and great things like tempeh, vegenaise, etc there. You can also find a place at the Saturday Farmer's market that has organic Nutritional Yeast, organic flour (several varieties), oats, beans, chickpeas, etc, all organic. Most of it is imported, though the flour and such is all ground at the Speerville flour mill, I believe. I'm not sure if there are other good places, though.

billyoffspring What is the best health food store in Nova Scotia?

I live on PEI and my options are very limited when it comes to organic produce. I'm looking for the best health food with the biggest selection of organic produce. I'm willing to make a drive to stock up.

Thanks in advance.

arcane Thank you! I'll definatly look into it. I've been researching like crazy as I've finally decided to stop being cheap and save up for what I want.
01-07-2009 05:09 PM
martino Okay, I finally heard back from my friend! She said they went to Pinski's, and were "totally satisfied". I assume it's a vegan tattoo place since she's vegan, but I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to double check. Hope this helps!
01-04-2009 12:08 AM
martino Hmm, I don't, but a vegan friend of mine recently got a tattoo (before moving away...) so I'll ask her!
01-03-2009 02:06 PM
arcane All right I have a question. Does anyone here know of any vegan or vegan friendly tattoo artists in the halifax area? I may be able to go to Truro or up to Cape Breton depending on the tattooer. Links to online portfolios would be a bonus. Or if you don't know, just in general any good reconmendations/experiences?
01-02-2009 08:55 AM
counting_hours Thats unfortunate :/

Im done unpacking now, and I keep reminding myself to post the "guesstimation" recipe for the donair, but I haven't gotten around to it. When I am home tonight I will try to do that because im at work now, lol.

martino So, I tried the veggie lobster...and it should probably be said, it's not the most realistic-tasting veggie meat out there. I'm not sure what to think of it, but it's definitely strange. It doesn't have a whole lot of flavour to it really, but it definitely has a rubbery texture, and I haven't decided if I don't like it, or am just indifferent to it...

martino Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
12-20-2008 02:09 PM
martino Hmm, Talay Thai may be the place for my next outing...

I received my package of fake lobster, crab, and salmon a couple of days ago! When it arrived, it wasn't fully frozen, but it was still very cold, and partially frozen. It took about 3-4 days to arrive. The final cost was probably about $70, so if you were to ask me is it worth it? Hmm, I'll tell you on Christmas when I eat the lobster.

By the way, counting hours...how's the unpacking? If you choose to read that as "any progress on the veggie donair recipe yet" that would be entirely up to you, but I wouldn't protest it.

So, where is Talay Thai? It sounds interesting!

I remember there was camo paint, screaming, and mud. Oh the mud.

Talay Thai is on Barrington, down near the superstore. It's in the old location of the Clay Cafe. Apparently some of their veg dishes use fish sauce (which to me makes it non veg) but if you ask they prepare it without (and it's written on your reciept NO FISH SAUCE). The waitress we had was right on the ball. And for two people the bill was only $25 (we only had water to drink though).

Well, yes, Great Big Sea is from Newfoundland...and Stan Rogers is from Ontario, but a few people, like yourself, see the light and come to our side!

arcane I snuck in with the military as a child. In veg news I went to Talay Thai saturday night, with an omni friend, and the waiter asked if we were vegan. It was a pleasant surprise.

Psht. You arn't a Nova Scotia at all. Leave *points to door*

Nah, I'm just kidding. You can stay. Just no more derogatory veg donair comments.consider this your only warning......

(I'm just kidding. Of course. So long as you meet the other strict criteria for being a NSer. We don't let em in easy)

counting_hours well..The unpacking is coming anyway :P

Do let us know how your package ships and how it is when you get it, for sure. I think I am going to end up ordering soem veg gummy bears really soon, for some reason I have the worst craving!
12-10-2008 07:46 PM
martino Well, it sounds like the unpacking is going well at least? I looked around the other day in the Asian grocery place on Quinpool, and didn't find anything...so I went and ordered some stuff online! From the one place that ships to Canada...it should arrive some time next week, so I'll let you know how it works out
12-10-2008 07:13 PM
counting_hours Nope! Definately not. I am about elbow deep in boxes these days, lol, so it can be hard to dig myself out enough to find the computer as is. I can help you with your donair issue possibly, however seafood- no help here. I never even ate seafood as an omni. I'm sure some NSer should be able to though...*pokes VB NSers*
