I've bought plenty of bands that I've learned about through youtube. It's usually the way I decide if I want to go to their concerts as well. But I tend to like the smaller record labels. My youtube video watching has not steered me to any new Warner offerings. Perhaps Warner is trying to pull all its videos in hopes that people don't associate youtube with music. I doubt it will work. PS: NotYet -- Try http://last.fm for finding new music. |

Even pay t.v. doesn't have any just music video stations anymore. MTV. MTV2, VH1, all those play more reality shows than anything. Well, actually I don't know about MTV2. I boycott MTV. This sucks. When I find a music video I like on YT I'm far more likely to buy the C.D. Corporate *******s. Rebbecca |

Sevenseas | Many videos that are pulled are uploaded by YouTube users anyway. |

Scythe | It's not like youtube is that great for downloads anyway. I hear http://albumhunt.com/ is nice this time of year. |

Kiz | Not a free to air one, anyway. (I don't have pay TV) |

What's the deal ...if you download a music clip from YouTube , is it illegal? If you just watch it , its not illegal? |

I have also watched videos on YouTube, then decided to buy the cd. A few days ago I also saw something on the news about not suing people who download music, but instead some internet providers will cancel your plan with them. |

Prince has been a wanker about things like this for a long time, though. While this latest development is news (and thank you for sharing) the way major corporations are trying to beat the music scene to death certainly isn't. This makes me want to take that old meat-eater line "For every music clip you pull I'll pirate two more". Quite seriously, watching one or video clips on line might (and in fact, actually has) prompted me to buy music. With moves like this it will become much easier to just head over to Pirate Bay and grab everything you want, permanently. Pirate the music and go to the concerts. No-one loses but Warner. |

rainforests1 | There are many other sites which play music video's so it's not a problem to me. I would be curious to see which musicians are effected. |

That's pretty bad, because I hate watching TV. I'd rather watch music videos I REALLY wanna see on the internet than waiting hours for my favorites on the TV. >_> However. |

Mwa ha ha! I hope they succeed. It'll help one of the labels I like (Nuclear Blast), who understands that youtube is free advertising. |

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Warner Music Group ordered YouTube on Saturday to remove all music videos by its artists from the popular online video-sharing site after contract negotiations broke down. The order could affect hundreds of thousands of videos clips, as it covers Warner Music's recorded artists as well as the rights for songs published by its Warner/Chappell unit, which includes many artists not signed to Warner Music record labels. http://www.reuters.com/article/newsO...4BJ1EY20081221 |
