i dislike eating durians! They smell too, but family and friends enjoy it As a meat substitute, I've only been trying out textured vegetable protein... still trying to get my hands on tempeh to try it out Matt |

janiejones | Blarghh I love tempeh but now that it's been described as looking like maggots, I'm sure I'll think that every time I eat it. Thanks guys...haha. I'm on the fence about mango also, maybe I'm just not very skilled at picking *good* mangoes, but I do love them in smoothies...I just finished one as a matter of fact! |

LOL- I don't love tempeh either and it does look like maggots! That is funny!! |

I always thought mangoes tasted like some weird flower too. I'm just not in love with them either. |

stillquiet | I would have to say Tempeh, I got sick right after I ate it, whether it was the tempeh or something else I ate around the same time, I do not know, but yeah.. |

I'm into the taste, but the smell...*shudder* You can put mangoes on my list too, I've never been able to stand them. They're sickly-sweet to me. |

I felt this way for a long time, got up the courage to try it again, and now I'm in love with it. So weird. |

Eggplant. It's okay as a eggplant parmesan (barely) but I'd still prefer a big saucy noodle instead. And curry. The smell of curry disgusts me. |

creep | I wasn't a big fan of mangos a couple years ago as an omni, so I decided to try some again. Still not a fan. I don't think I'll be able to finish what I bought. They taste like someone mixed together pickles and flowers and put it in fruit form. |

Chillbill | These burgers I bought at Wholefoods once; I think they were called Sunshine burgers or something like that. Yuck! |

veggiegirl1978 | avocados. Tried them 2 times and I just don't like them even though I think everyone else in the entire world does! |

janiejones | So far I don't really enjoy vegan sour cream because it just tastes like tofu....i'll eat it because the consistency is nice and sometimes I want something creamy that isn't guac in my mexican food, but stilllll, just not my favorite. There's nothing I absolutely hate I don't think though. |

I've been less than impressed by Trader Joe's low sodium vegetarian soups. I usually love TJ's, and many if not most of their frozen stuff is quite nicely seasoned, but their low sodium soups are quite bland in comparison. Maybe I could spice it up with organic black pepper and sea salt? |

OkiBanana | Veggie-dogs. Barf. Granted I've only tried two brands. Morningstar was inconvenient because it is frozen, but of the two it was the most edible. The smart-dogs (or whatever it is they're called) were just nasty. |

Vegan Cheese. I'm ovo-lacto, but every now and then I try a non dairy cheese. I would like to find a non soy based cheese, but even the soy cheeses are awful. Have a block of almond milk cheese here right now and boy is it baaaaaad. Not a big fan of tofu unless it's blended and invisible in something sweet like frozen tofu 'ice cream' or tofu pudding. Cubed up? Bleh! Oh, and tempeh. UGH. A patient of mine keeps telling me that you can't be a REAL vegetarian unless you eat tempeh. Guess that leaves me out. Ugh! |

I like black bean burgers, but other than that I'm not a fan of imitation meats (especially hot dogs, YUCK!) Not a fan of soy cheeses either, although I do think Tofutti's Better Than Cream Cheese is really yummy. So is soy ice cream.... Tofutti Cuties, anyone? ![]() I think hummus is amazing, and can replace cheese on many sandwiches. Generally, homemade hummus tastes much better than store bought, in my experience. By the way, awesome thread! I love reading the things that people don't like... it's amazing how different one person's taste buds can be from another. |

Fortunately, since then just about everything I've tried I like. How thick did you cut it? It's better around 1/8" to 1/4" thick. And if it was thicker than that, then it's possible that salting it didn't get much of the bitter juice out. Or maybe you just don't like eggplant. |

I don’t drink, smoke or eat meat so I decided I would become a coffee drinker. I had a bit of a setback however when I found that regardless of quality, country of origin or how it is brewed, I despise coffee. Black coffee, white coffee, hot coffee, cold coffee, coffee cake, coffee ice cream - any kind of coffee. I love the smell but cannot stomach the taste. |

Yes, I salted it and let it dry on a rack with a paper towel according to the recipe I got from Weber's Big Book of Grilling. (fun to finally get to the veggie section of that book after all these years). Just the flavor or texture, something didn't click for me. I may try bbq sauce next time, I didn't use any this time around. I wanted to use an asian eggplant because I prefer those, but it's not in season. |

danakscully64 | Yeah, salting eggplant makes all the difference in the world. |

Did you salt the eggplant first? Some varieties of eggplant on their own are overwhelmingly bitter unless you salt the cut flesh very well and let it sit for about 30 minutes prior to cooking. The salt will draw out some of the eggplant's bitter liquid. I've found salting makes eggplant very mild tasting. |
