If a vegan restaurant was going to be successful, I think it could happen in NY. There's already a few out there though so it could be quite competative. |

I believe there are a few natural cooking schools that are vegetarian, so you might be able to go that route if you want to learn the cooking side of it, but I also recommend getting a business/management degree. Running a restaurant is tough, and the chances of succeeding are slim, but it would be an amazing thing to do. If you are ok seeing threads that talk about meat, I would recommend checking out www.egullet.com They are a society that includes all manner of foodies and restaurateurs. There is a "restaurant life" forum that talks a lot about working in, managing and owning restaurants, and there have been lots of threads about vegetarian/vegan restaurants. The quality of posts is incredibly high since you have to write an application essay to become a member. |

Are you at least in NY state?...There is a vegan place in Albany, NY right now. I agree with there should be more vegan restaurants, however I hope you don't pay the price if the demand isn't there. |

Would majoring in business be a good idea?
Yes excellent , it would give you amazing organization skills to run a good vegan restaurant/ bakery . Depending on your area , you might get part time work in vegan restaurant while you study, even if its washing dishes , you could get insight to see if its you . |

imthebaker | I'm a junior in high school still deciding what i want to do with my life. I'm thinking it would be fun to open up a vegan restaurant or bakery in New York, i don't live there. Would majoring in buisness be a good idea? I'm just afraid i'd have to go to a cooking school and use meat and dairy products. I just think there should be more vegan restaraunts out there. |
