I'm pretty pratical. My family were fix-it types based partly on necessity. Necessity is the mother of invention. For example my mom made adjustable (snaps instead of pins) cloth diapers for me and washed them herself to save money. But I also think it's fun and a matter of principle sometimes.

I seem to get the impression somehow over time you are a practical person, I don't know quite exactly where this notion came from, but you seem it anyway. I've bookmarked the 2 sites, for comparison with other DIY sites just out of curiousity (until I can actually DIY myself which I am crap at).

FreshTart wow! I can think of a few family members who would love a sub to those magazines! Thanks for giving me ideas for next year's Christmas gifts!

Thalia On NPR yesterday, they interviewed editors of two interesting magazines about do-it-yourself projects, especially ones that re-use old stuff most people throw out.

The magazines were Make Magazine http://www.makezine.com/ which is more technology oriented, like popular mechanics



and Readymade Magazine http://www.readymademag.com/ which has contests like make the most creative thing out of styrofoam peanuts, and ideas for making gifts, etc.



I plan on seeing if my library carries either of these.
