And they can determine that the aspirations (intentions, precisely) of other pigs are different from their own and make adjustments to behaviour accordingly. Indicative of "higher order" consciousness at least.

All animals are conscious unless unconscious or dead or comatose or hibernating.

Are they self aware?

My dogs definitely have emotions.

ilovemydragon When one of my dogs died, my other one who knew him for years was clearly upset he was not around. When DH comes home from work, my dogs are happy and missed him. I guess you have my answer.

Marie It'd be hard to play with my pets if they were unconscious.. so I'd say I'm for consciousness.

veganinohio Most of them would be very similar to the arguments you may have seen for or against human conscousness (at least when comparing animals of similar nervous system and brain). Ultimately unprovable but self evident.
