azerea_02 | I've yet to try Daiya, but I recently found ONE grocery where they have it, in Embrun, of all places, tiny little town in the country :P I'm looking forward to trying it on homemade pizza though |

No way! I go to the NFP in Billings 2-3 times a week and I've never seen it! I've seen the Follow Your Heart and the Tofutti slices. But never Daiya! Maybe they're always sold out. I wouldn't be surprised, since it's so good! ![]() Yep, I felt the earthquake! It was pretty strong. The epicentre was only 50km north of Ottawa! They made us evacuate our office building after. |

Hi! I'm from Strathroy, Ontario, which is really close to London. Any Londoners around here? I noticed that we have two vegetarian restaurants in the city - Zen Vegetarian (which I have eaten at) and Veg Out (vegan). I try to get up to Toronto as much as possible, but since it's 3 hours away that isn't always doable. So, anyone from around there? |

Farmrush | That would be really cool. I literally only know one person in the entire city! |

Go to VegFest next weekend! It's the second year it's running, they're going to have tons of booths for vegetarian and vegan companies in town (Auntie Loo's vegan cupcakes, ZenKitchen vegan restaurant, all sorts of local natural product makers). Go to www.ncva.ca for more info. Entry is free! |

TomatoSauceHobo | I live in Ottawa too, but I'm so new to Vegetarianism that i have no idea about anything food related. Also I went to uni in Toronto. So I'm useless for advice, but i love making friends! |

I'm not attending these universities, but I've lived in Ottawa for 3 years, so I can help you with any questions you have about the city. Vegetarian-friendly restaurants, health food stores, etc. There are lots of options, and I've tried most of them. Some are better than others ![]() |

Farmrush | Is anyone planning on attending University of Ottawa or Carleton University in September? I wouldn't mind making a few new friends as I won't know anyone in, or anything about, the city. |

how far west, like mississauga? i lived there for 4 years and i had no trouble finding places to eat, the key is to avoid all the big chains and look for small ethnic places. there's tons of options in indian, thai, japanese, chinese etc. the trick is just finding places where the staff know enough english to be able to explain your needs and make substitutions etc. and any place where the owners are muslim or buddhist is usually more likely to understand what vegetarian and vegan mean. the only totally vegan restuarant i ate at my whole 4 years there was in oakville, a little place called i think Ruby's, the place is so rundown, it was practically empty, the menu was small, the prices too high, but the owner herself serves you and is a super nice lady. because it was our first visit (i have a feeling she remembers all of her customers) we got free soup which was quite possibly the best carrot soup i have ever had, ever. i forget what i ordered, it wasn't bad but not spectacular, and carrot cake for dessert was disappointing, it was a very small piece and seemed a little stale, and was sorta bland. i think it's worth going there at least once just for the service and the soup though lol. if it's still there |

Urban Herbivore in Kensington Market is probably my favourite vegan restaurant in the city. They have amazing sandwiches. http://www.fressenrestaurant.com/ (They're owned by Fressen, which is also amazing but a lot fancier.) |
