Sidhuriel Ik zeg even hoi onder mijn nieuwe account.

Hoi hoi alemaal.

Not Dutch, but have been living in your country for a few years now. It's quite nice here!

Only very recently (6 months) went veggie (thanks Gary Yourofsky).

Haven't actually been out to any vegetarian restraunts so would welcome any advice for Amsterdam.

Paying it forward, my advice to you all is not to dine at De Klos if you don't eat meat. I ordered a salad and the guys really laid into me, got the whole restaurant shouting abuse at me too... every time I looked around or went to the loo, people would shout and shake their head/ fists at me.

Actually, do go, it's quite fun.

But i think you can try the 'oelek' version. Just took a jar out of the fridge and the ingredients look pretty vegan to me.

And if you like spicy you should really try 'Katjang Pedis'. Watch out though some brands contain eggs and trassi traces.

Why am I reading this when the shops are all closed already and I have no way of getting these ingredients?

What kind of merciless God taunts me so?!

Merijn Hello fellow Dutch veggies

Tinoberserker Yeah it is. and it bulks you up quickly. That's why i started working out at the gym again to get rid of those sandwich calories.
11-03-2011 05:36 AM
Mia82 Your sandwich idea sounds way too addictive!

@rno Sambal without trassi is tasty. You can buy it at Albert Heijn.
10-26-2011 01:37 AM
Mia82 Coolness! Still kind of gutted about the sambal though, hadn't had it before I came here and thought it was tasty.
10-24-2011 05:49 AM
Windigo Heinz ketchup in the supermarket is free of animal products, I think their curry sauce is also. Sateh sauces often contain milk or traces of milk (melk in Dutch) you have to be careful with that.
10-24-2011 03:20 AM
Mia82 I'd hope not anyway, but you never know, food producers everywhere can be sneaky.
10-24-2011 02:42 AM
@rno I have no idea about the ingredients of saté (sateh) and curry or ketchup in snackbars.
10-24-2011 02:35 AM
Mia82 Figured as much, was just wondering about the standard satay or curry ketchup that you find at snack bars. Good to know about Sambal Oelek
10-24-2011 02:30 AM
@rno If it contains trassi, it will be written in the ingredients. Probably "Sambal Oelek" doesn't contain trassi.
10-24-2011 02:18 AM
Mia82 Noooo, and I just discovered sambal and liked it!

What about curry ketchup and satay sauce?
10-24-2011 01:52 AM
@rno Also sambal (very hot) can contain trassi = prawn. (In Dutch: "garnalen", "garnalenextract", "garnalenpasta")
