Ah ... never read the comments. It's full of troglodytes trying to legitimise their ill conceived opinions ... actually that's very unfair to troglodytes who were no doubt doing the best they could under the circumstances.
Also to be fair to the masses they are simply (as we all are) a product of the environment we grow up in. Currently we live in an age where meat is glorified and the slow drip of articles like this, and others, is eroding that position. I am more irritated at the the doctors and specialists that I saw for years who should have been more educated or at least been less blinkered.

nothing new in the article, its been said that since meat contains hormones, bacteria & other parasites like worms, it will result in a more unhealthy body in the long run. Cancer, specifically are triggered by consumption of meat. I know for a fact that India having 3 times the population of U.S has the same number of deaths per day from cancer (roughly 1500) as U.S. Another interesting fact is that among the chief reasons for cancer in India is tobacco chewing/smoking, pollution & is centred around the mouth, lungs, intestine etc, whereas much of the cancer cases in U.S occur in areas where the only explanation is genetic i.e mammary cancer, prostate cancer, lymphoma, blastoma etc. Could it be that due to the 40%+ veggie population in India, that cancer casualties are 3 times less cumulatively, per 100 people than U.S? My guess is that the white coat butchers along with their brothers the other white coat butch..er doctors are involved in a HUGE cover-up & it isn't doing the people any good as also the animals. Somehow criticizing meat diet is kind of a taboo worldwide and I simply don't understand why, aren't facts more important than delusions?
Coming to your statement of autoimmune disorder, these things are unique for each affected person. There are autoimmune disorders that go after skin-cells to cause pigmentation, some go after hair, some after a particular type of food. This has to do with programming within the body which is well outside the control of the sufferer. Your doc made a big error of judgement there. One must always go by his/her instincts when it comes to food allergies since no advanced tests exist that could discover them.

I used to have endometriosis which is largely thought to be an autoimmune disease. I also have hypothyroidism which is also autoimmune. I could not for the life of me tolerate red meat as an omnivore as I would be doubled over in pain and it aggravated my endometriosis a lot. So did dairy. I was already inflammed enough with lesions on my bladder, colon, ovary, all over the outside of my uterus. It just makes sense that those foods made it worse. In fact I have read that there are specialized endometriosis diets for people with endometriosis and it encourages avoidance of red meats and most dairy.
I hate reading all the comments on that article though. Rolls eyes at the hunter gatherer arguments which make their way into any argument that challenges eating meat.

I knew it! (long rant follows)
I'm pretty furious right now. For all sorts of reasons but the primary one among them being that I spent years asking doctors if my diet had any impact on my primary health condition. Also these were specialists in their fields both within the NHS and private doctors.
After some time I figured out for myself that meat really triggered all sorts of terrible reactions in my body and that I had to stop eating it because it was killing me (I mean this in a literal rather than metaphorical sense - I was disabled by my condition in that it affected my mobility and I was constantly sick). When I asked doctors specifically about meat being a triggering factor they claimed there was absolutely no research to show this could be the case and no research was ever going to show that meat specifically caused problems of the kind I was describing outside of a very specific group of conditions.
Am feeling very vindicated by this article. If nothing else it shows that an immune reaction to meat (generally rather than an allergic reaction) is absolutely possible.
I am of course acutely aware that with any autoimmune disorder that everyone experiences it very differently. What works for one person may have no effect on the next. This article in no way references my particular condition but it does explain exactly what I have been saying all along - that meat is causing an inflammatory response in my body. As my immune system is already pretty dysfunctional it really shouldn't be aggravated further - and quite obviously meat is not harmless to my immune system.
