*Sunflower* Thanks! I guess I'll call the company next week, there's a number on the tube.

anthony11 Could be either animal or veg source. Earth Balance gets lactate from beets.

I tend to assume that it's animal unless otherwise claimed.

Menthyl lactate is produced from the natural ingredients menthol and lactic acid. Menthol has a cooling effect on the skin. The lactic acid strengthens the skin's own acid mantel.

...Lactic Acid, although associated with Milk products can be derived from fermentation of Lactic Acid bacteria in Molasses and other substances.

You might want to google more info on Lactic Acid.

*Sunflower* Is this vegan-friendly? It sounds kind of like a milk-derivative, menthyl LAC-tate, but I wanted to find out. It's in my lipgloss: CO Bigelow Apothecaries Mentha Lip Shine No. 502, it's minty flavored. It's not tested on animals.

I tried googling menthyl lactate, but I couldn't figure out where it's derived from. Maybe sugar beets like lactic acid?

Anyone know? Thanks!
