Please note that despite the references on the site of the New York Veggie Pride Parade to the Paris Veggie Pride, the former is not a copy of the latter. It is not affiliated and has a very different orientation. The fact that it refers to the Paris event and has the words “Veggie Pride” in its name is a regrettable confusion.



The Veggie Pride is an event that has been held annually in Paris since 2001. This year, for the first time, there will also be a Veggie Pride in Rome, based on the same ideas. But the New York event is completely different.



The idea of the Veggie Pride is that vegetarianism is first and foremost the refusal to eat animals, for the animals' sake. The Veggie Pride is centered on that refusal. People come to it to express that they believe it is right to refuse to eat animals.

I am an organizer of the Paris and Rome Veggie Pride demonstrations. I hope that next May's New York event will be a success, but it is not a Veggie Pride and I regret the confusion that has been created. I also hope that some day there will be a real Veggie Pride in New York and many other places in the world.

Twizzle, what is different about the NYC parade?



Personally, I generally have no need to "refuse" to eat animals. Rarely does anyone try to force me to eat anything, much less force me to eat animals. If anything, people often try to prevent me from getting enough to eat, rather than try to force me to eat anything. For example, I'm not allowed to use land, for cultivating edible plants, without paying someone huge sums of money per acre, for the "privelege" of "owning" the land, and then without paying off multiple "governments" with annual tributes, if I want to avoid having them force me off the land.
