I'm moving to the Clearwater/Tampa/St Pete area. Uh I know that's not all one area but we're not sure where we are moving yet. My uncle is already in Clearwater and my aunt is moving to Largo in March. If anyone can give me some advice on moving, places to find veg food, music stores, clubs, anything, that'd be great. I'd just ask my uncle but he's a 50 year old christian omni dude. I doubt he'll answer my gay club questions seriously

So I guess I'll in this thread more often than the NY one from now on.

Clearwater, Largo, and St Pete are close enough to each other.

I can help you out with the veg stores and where some of the stores and cool places are. (At least what I consider cool...)

Moving is hard. Finding a nice house is hard. My uncle tells me we should just rent at first but damn, I can not even imagine a place willing to rent to someone that has 2 dogs, 3 cats, 2 fish, 3 birds and a turtle...add two kids to that mix. Oy.

Speaking of aminamals are there any animal laws I should know about in FL, specifically clearwater? Or anyone know where I can look them up? We actually thought of rescuing a ferret but it occured to me they might not even be legal in FL. Ugh. I hate moving.

Hehe, I submitted an employment application, I was so excited about their restaurant. It looks awesome.

I think it was mentioned earlier on. I know Artichoke has eaten there and liked it, iirc.

I don't know if it's too late to answer this question, but I've eaten in Sublime a couple of times... Their food is really good... especially their Napa Potato Tart and their lasagna. Even my meat-eating boyfriend likes it there.

Noone in the world lives in Sarasota, but me. The most vegan friendly this city gets is The Granary (an all natural food store). I love it in LA because they have so many vegan restaurants it is like ridiculous.

I don't think it is just Sarasota. I think it is most of this stupid state. Tampa isn't much better - if it is better at all.

Hi!

I'm in Orlando right now.

Can anyone recommend a good vegan-friendly restaurant here?

I've seen a few listed, but would like to get some personal experiences.

Garden Cafe, on Colonial (State Road 50) near the TD Waterhouse Center. Awesome Chinese Restaurant, and 99% of the meals are vegan. (I think it's just egg drop soup, everything else should be OK.)

Practically raised in Winter Park (10 min drive from down-town Orlando) for most of my life. Now, I'm in Gainesville at UF. Graduating in 2 weeks! Next, Indianapolis, IN for dental school this July. Bye bye flip-flops and tank tops, hello snow and a real winter...

Hi People,

I'm here with Wanda. Two questions:

- What is the vegetarian / Animal Rights scene in Gainesville? I looked at the meetup group and it didn't seem too active. I'm thinking about getting a job there and am wondering about a vegan / Animal Rights future for my kids in Gainesville.

- Same question, but for Orlando. We're here for a couple of weeks and it would be nice to meet others here, especially with kids. (Wanda was just at the Whole Foods in Winter Park a couple of hours ago.)

The Whole Foods in Winter Park is heaven. Have you tried Chamberlan's in the Winter Park Village off of 17-92?

Yep, and also the one off of Sand Lake Road (I work on that end of town.) They're pretty good, but, I find Whole Foods generally has a better selection and slightly better prices, at least on the stuff I'm hunting.

I've been to Chamberlan's. I still remembered them from 5 years ago. I like their spinach/filo wraps. But it doesn't look like they're going to be able to compete with Whole Foods.

What I like about Whole Foods is that they have a big selection and are sprouting up everywhere in America. That makes it so easy for vegetarians/vegans to find what they need. What really bugs me about them is their huge meat/fish department. It's especially sad to see them selling veal and lamb. I'm a bit torn about this....

Yeah, at least it's "tastefully done"... I don't really know what I mean by that... I guess it's not "in your face"... kinda in the back corner. I've learned to deal with it.

Cool! St. Pete is beautiful... my nephew lives there and we go to visit him once a month or so. Down near the marina (where the aquarium is and all,) there are lots of neat outdoor shops with hummus and other veggie snacks. A very health-conscious area.
