I'm Gemma, I'm 18 and I live in Mottingham (Greenwich, London). I went veggie on the 31st December and I hope to be vegan before the end of year. I'm diabetic and I still live at home so I'm taking the transition very slowly.

I'm at Hadlow College (in Kent) studying animal behavioural science and welfare.

You can change it to whatever you want. Go to "User CP" in the toolbar at the top of your screen, click "edit your details" in the side bar and put whatever title you want in the "Custom User Title" box.

What she said ^.

I have to say, it doesn't get much more exciting even when "newbie" goes away. "Member" comes next, I think.

Hello - I'm Elsa, 29, currently living in Leeds - but moving back down south during the summer when my husband starts a new job. I'm a mum of two, with a third on the way.

Hi Elsa! Welcome!

How much longer do you have to wait for number 3's arrival?

Only 8 weeks to go now, which I'm sure will go quickly, as the rest of the pregnancy has flown by.

Have had a happy, healthy vegetarian pregnancy. The only downside has been a health visitor who told me I'm "abusing" my unborn child with my veggie diet and that my husband (also a veggie) and I are "abusing" our two children by raising them on a veggie diet. Needless to say a complaint was put in!

Ah! I'm glad you put in a complaint! That surprises me, because much of the info that the NHS, etc. publishes talks about how you can eat a healthful veg. diet. Is she going to continue to be your HV?

Here's hoping the last few weeks go smooth for ya!

I think she just must be of the 'old school of thought'. My previous HV was wonderful and very understanding, but sadly she moved away.

I have a new HV now and she is great.

You'd think NHS employees would support a healthy diet. Mind you, the amount of doctors I see smoking outside the hospitals makes me shake my head in amazement, I shouldn't be surprised they're promoting unhealthy practices.

I've met a lot of doctors, nurses and especially dietitians who've been strongly against a vegetarian diet and constantly suggest unhealthy options. Some are more understanding than others though.

As for smoking outside hospitals, as far as i'm aware all NHS trusts should be non smoking sites. Unless they are smoking off hospital premises (which if they're standing directly outside a building they won't be) they should not be smoking and it is a disciplinary offense. Report them or complain to the hospital involved.

Heh. Once you get outside the doors of the local hospital here, it's like running the gauntlet. Blech blech blech. I've started to make loud, wretching sounds when I encounter rude smokers.
