Would be really grateful if you could share some ideas with me, if you have any!

The question is as follows: If you could design a poster to put up in your town to promote the abolition of animal exploitation and to promote veganism, what would you put on it to be the most effective way to get people to think about animal exploitation? What slogan would you put on it, and would you add a picture or not and if so, what?

Thanks in advance for any ideas. (Please take your time to think about this if necessary!)

Firstly, I would add a picture (animal, many people know) as the background, and slogan, what about "LOVE OUR FRIEND..." or? I will keep thinking about this...

I'd have something like a pretty picture of a chicken with FRIEND over it, and a picture of the grossest KFC sandwich or whatever with FOE over it. 'NOT' in between friend and foe.

: shrug :

Maybe have a picture of a cow and a gallon of milk next to it, and above it say REMEMBER.... then below it 'Slavery was abolished ___ years ago (unsure what country you're in)'

same could work with a chicken and a carton of eggs.

Or have a carton of eggs with a red circle around it and a slash through it and have SLAVERY written above it, and NOT COOL below it. That'll get attention I'm sure.

I think the picture of a dinner setting with a puppy on the plate is very effective in provoking thought about animal exploitation so something along those lines would be good. Possible tagline: Food for Thought.

I'd probably get a picture of an enslaved animal looking contrite, not a gory picture, but an emotional one. And caption it with a brief detail of the horrors he/she will endure, and then just explain that such happens because of speciesism, and that the only way to combat speciesism is to go vegan.

I think this is a good idea. Do not try to use gore, it does not work.

You think so? I remember some pretty sick peta posters that got my attention, along time ago. I think it really depends on the individual. I'd definately suggest keeping a good median to attract a larger crowd.

According to this study those tactics do not work well:

Using gore can work in some cases, but it can also backfire.

what about a picture of a cow whispering to some people, with the caption "There's a rumour going around that you eat animals"?

Make 'um paranoid, I say.

You could list all the known bacteria and cholesterol/fat/hormone contents in a glass of regular milk, then put a carton of milk as a picture

Then a list of all the known above for rice/soy milk, and put a picture of a rice/soy milk carton.

You could list the sources of cholesterol in a omnivore diet then list the sources of cholesterol in a vegan diet... and just write NONE real big.

A picture of porky pig holding his girlfriend's hat (petunia?) mourning at a pigroast.

At the vegan expo I got a magnet from Animal Liberation that had a cartoon image of a cow and said 'Don't get mad... get vegan'. I thought that was smart. I have some photos on my computer...will add them if any might help with creativity. Or, I'd have a picture of a sow in one of those crates with a comment regarding free range being the least they could do. Or an animal being tested on [or at least caged and really sad looking] and asking what the reader would do if she was theirs. Or... Something clever, not aggressive, yet informative

Animals Australia out here use an image similar to this one, in bus stops.

Edit: Found a few that may or may not get people thinking.

Add another vote for "no gore." My thinking is people will associate the messenger with the message, so make sure the message is something you don't mind being your reputation. The protesters carrying gory pictures of dismembered babies may be well-meaning people, but even as a pro-lifer I'm likely to say "ew" and avoid them because I think they're interested in gore.

If someone is genuinely interested in going veg*n, they'll probably encounter some gore in their research. Let that be them looking, not the first idea they encounter.

i'm currently working on a pro-vegan pseudo ad campaign for a special projects art class.

my first poster reads, 'SLAVERY WAS ABOLISHED IN 1865' below it features several dairy cows behind bars. i'm also making another poster with the same quote, except it will portray the exploitation of battery hens.

thanks for the inspiration! =]

EDT: here are the two i have completed to distribute on November 1st [world vegan day]

I like the picture added by a previous poster that shows the kitten and pig touching noses, and says "Which do you pet and which do you eat? Why?" It really gets people thinking.

I've lost sleep, trying to work out why an enslaved animal would look contrite.

My dogs don't even look contrite when I trip in a hole they've dug.

BTW - Pictures of naked women are a good way to attract attention to one's AR message.

A picture of an animal that is both tested on but also can be someones pet (eg rabbit)playing or happy in a normal enviroment with a fact about animal testing next to it. it would make people think by associating the two, which not as many non-vegans do

I agree with the "no gore" vote. People are so used to tuning that out that it takes someone special to actually see it. I really really like Colleen's slogan from Food for Thought- "Be kind to animals... Don't eat them". It's thoughtful and appeals to all those people who "love aniamls" but eat, abuse, and exploit them.

Of course, you could use the image that worked for me which was a sweet picture of a baby cow and some chickens (They were right in front of me on the farm though). Underneath you could write what my BF said to me at the time that made it all click- "You eat them." Or make it a question, "Why do you eat them?" The at the bottom you could add information about animal abuse, dairy, and end on a positive note about how healthy one can be while eating and living vegan.

Good Luck! I'd love to see whatever you pick when you're done

Perhaps a brutally grotesque slaughterhouse photograph entitled "You are what you eat"?

I know a few people who would choke on their burgers while reading that.
