Synthetic man made materials

Hello! Does anyone feel that synthetic leather and fake animal products still promote the real thing? Also, if anyone is also an environmentalist, do you think the production of fake leather and fur is more wasteful than real leather/fur?
Just to be certain, I am not talking about fur farms or leather farms, just would it be any better to use the animal hide from meat eaters instead of creating a synthetic that looks exactly the same and leads people to believe it's real?

I'm just thinking about this lately, since there seems to be a lot of "fast fashion" jumping on the vegan leather/ fur faux trend. I am personally conflicted, since I do not understand their true motives. (Cheaper product, higher price, and they know vegans care about animals etc)
I hope this comes across as thoughts, not necessarily what is really going on. I guess these are just weird thoughts I get, and was wondering what everyone else thinks.
