I quit eating fast food when I started going vegan, so I was never in that predicament. I heard that they weren't vegetarian when I was a vegetarian though. I can't remember if I accidentally had them when I was veggie or not.

I think I had McDonald's/Burger King fries once or twice when I first went vegan. A little over a year ago, a friend of mine bought fries from Checker's and found a fingernail in them. After seeing that, I will never trust a fast food restaurant again.

no, they use beef flavoring in the natural flavoring

ETA: They use beef flavoring in the US, I'm unsure of other places, though I have heard some are veggie.

to answer the op's question, I also quit eating fast food when I became vegan, so it was not an issue. But yes, it really annoying and ridiculous that they use beef flavoring! Fries are awesome without beef...

I only get fries from MDs,as all the chip shops in the UK seem to fry in beeffat vegoil mix.

I used to eat the chips here before I knew about the beef fat(Tallow) thing, I don't think I would enjoy them now, unless I really needed them, if I were homeless or something.

I had them two or three times last year as a vegetarian, and later found out they might have beef in them >.< I'm in Canada so I'm unsure, but I avoid them like the plague now so I don't really care.

I don't eat at McDonalds or Burger king - for some reason I've become a vegan, so I won't support them in any way!

Well, I'm not sure. I just gathered that it was traditional, they did used to seem a bit suspect, looking back.

I would like to eat those soggy lumps of potato again, all covered in vinegar, but unless I knew for sure, I wouldn't enjoy them.

My son's school has a McDonald's PTA night every January where a certain percentage of the profit between 4 and 7pm goes to the school PTA. Last night was that night. It's the first time I've eaten fast food since attempting to go vegan. And it went miserably!

I ordered the "apples and walnuts" only to find out that the walnuts are coated with honey. So I had really awful tasting apple slices for dinner, and a couple of near-mushy grapes. Blech. I need to learn to pack my purse with a few emergency items.

bk fries are vegan in the US, they use peanut oil & a fryer totally seperate from where they cook the meat products.

I used to work there for like 2 years & had to answer phone calls about that a lot.

their veggie burgers arn't vegan though they're morningstar brand.

Ugh...When I first went vegetarian over 5 years ago I was eating McDonalds Fries. It was only 2 years afterwars I found out they were not veggie friendly. I was very disgusted as I as a very strict vegetarian. Now I will not eat fries unless they are made by myself or husband

I wouldn't believe a word any fast food restaurant said to me!

Besides this, McDonald's and Burger King and such are hideously unethical companies. I'd never set foot in a fast food restaurant.

I would hope that most vegans would not patronize MD or BK, but the sad fact is sometimes there is no other option. I've had to buy a water from there before and I felt so guilty for giving them money.

The rest of the animal agriculture industry is just as bad as McDonald's, Burger King, etc. So, I don't see anything more wrong with, for example, buying an orange juice from a KFC, than I would see with buying a veggie burger from a grocery store which sells meat.

You dont?

So the grocery store that makes money by selling other non meat related goods, that could still sustain if there was no meat on their shelves is not different than a KFC or McDonalds that would not survive if they didt sell meat? Also I dont see grocery stores pouring millions into r&d and chemical additives to make their foods addictive.

But hey thats just me.

I agree. Most fast food chains purposefully create harmful products to sell in their restaurants, while a grocer just sells food. They are not the ones pouring billions into research for food additives directly.

If meat was banned, I'm sure MD could stay in business.
