I don't know if it is ok. Wikipedia says Inosinic acid is present in muscle and other tissues....I would probably just avoid it if I were you. It's much easier just to avoid something rather than call companies and ask around to find if it's vegan. What is it that it is in? I'm sure you could find something similar without that ingredient in it.

The Vegan Society lists it as animal-derived:

It's in Swanson vegetarian broth.

got word of the response from swanson:

"Disodium Inosinate is a scientific name for a flavor enhancer that occur naturally in many common foods. This includes mushrooms meat, fish, and poultry, as well as many vegetables. "

im not satisfied with this answer at all, they did not say the source of the enhancer they use....

See if your store carries this...our grocery stores do and it's what I use!

http://healthyheartmarket.com/imagin...th-32floz.aspx

Ingredients: Filtered Water, organic onions, organic carrots, organic celery, organic tomato paste, organic spices, organic expeller pressed canola oil and/or safflower oil and/or sunflower oil, organic garlic and sea salt.

Everything is pronounceable haha.
