I'm not sure we've had a poll like this before but I'm curious how most people went vegan... gradual or cold turkey?

I went straight from pescatarian to vegan. I guess "more than one attempt" best describes it. For a while there was a fair bit of backsliding and caving in, but I never thought of it as having to "start over". I just set my mind to it and kept at it, and it gradually got easier and easier to make the choices I already know I wanted to make.

I just woke up one day, decided I was vegan and that I would no longer consume animal products. If I do the whole gradual thing then I tend to fail. I've just gone cold turkey on black tea from drinking in excess of 6 mugs per day and I am having the worst headaches ever. Determination not to be beaten by a dried leaf/cheese/choclate bar tends to drive me through these things.

Cold turkey and it stuck.

The 2nd most empowering decision I ever made for myself and the most empowering I ever made for animals.

The first most empowering decision I ever made for myself was to free myself of nicotine addiction. (which was way tougher for me personally than giving up cheese and dairy)

Cold turkey and it stuck. Shocked everyone I knew but I always find it works better than gradually doing it. Might just be me though

Cold turkey and it stuck along with giving up nicotine. Probably not the best decision to do both at once, but its worked so far!

I picked "cold turkey and it stuck" but maybe I should have picked other... I became a vegan overnight without any slip ups, but in the beginning, my mother literally forced me to eat animal products (including meat). I try not to think about that, though... It's not a good memory for me.

Vegetarian was cold turkey. I've been lacto-ovo for 10 years and just this summer have slowly made the transition on getting dairy and eggs out too.

I gradually became vegan, it did take more more then one attemped because I did slip off the wagon a few times. After that I felt more cold turkey actually, but yeah I am a full vegan now

My option wasn't there.

I clicked my ruby slippers together, said, three times, in as convincing and strong a voice as I could muster, behind heavy lidded eyes, wishing as hard as I could: "There's no place like home!".

"Yes! Live! Life's a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death!" Auntie Mame

I started out pescatarian. Then Lacto-ovo (5 years), then vegan (2 years). But I lapsed last year back into lacto veg. But it didn't last long (two months). I went vegan again. So I say that I've been vegan for two years, eventhough, I had an "oops" for two months. That dang cheese .... gggrrrrrr.

I could've sworn I already answered this!! Weird. I voted Cold Turkey and it stuck. For me it just sort of clicked one day I just knew there was no way I could ever eat meat again knowing what I knew.
