I'm reading this article and totaled the cheese and other frozen dairy foods which amounts to roughly 55 pounds per person per year. I looked up gallons to pounds conversion and apparently one gallon = roughly 8 pounds. So, correct me if I'm wrong(math is actually the one subject in school I'm bad at), but does the average person consume:

over 200 pounds of milk in a year? (8 pounds x 25 gallons)

and 55 pounds of other dairy? (cheese, yoghurt, etc.)

I thought it was waaaaaaay less. Organic or non-organic, that is a massive amount of cruelty.

That's about a quart of milk and a pound of cheese a week, very roughly. I don't doubt it, what with cheese being in EVERY DANGED THING sold prepackaged or precooked (or so it seems) and ice cream being as popular as it is.

But I still don't think it's worse than meat. One dairy cow (I'm recalling from my childhood here, so could be off) can produce several gallons of milk a day; but it takes a chicken to feed a couple one meal in many cases.

Yeah, that doesn't sound too far off to me either. Pretty sad.

I didn't think it was that much but then I didn't realise just how many prepackaged things had cheese in them until I gave it up.

It sounded like a lot to me, until I read the 8 lbs = 1 gallon. When I was drinking milk, I'd do a half-gallon a week, easily (probably more), and I didn't even use it on my cereal!

Have you all seen The Shining?

Because right now I'm picturing the elevator scene, only instead of blood, the doors open and it's like waves of milk.

Ew.

I was a cheese monster myself. If there was cheese in it, I ate it.

I posted this is the vegetarian forum, but it was moved here. Apparently the math is correct, but this topic is more useful in the vegetarian forum than here, right?

I drank 730 lbs of milk each year as an omni!!!!!!!

A gallon would last me four days!

365 / 4 = 91.25(gallons per year)

91.25 * 8 = 730

(unless my logic is way off...I've been awake for a very log time...)

I only drank about a cup of milk a day, because I only liked it as hot cocoa.

Then I discovered soy milk cocoa tastes better, and soy milk tasted good by itself too, unlike milk. And so shifted my ways to vegetarian, then almost vegan, slowly.

Milk is gross.

But cheese...... I'm having trouble with cheese cravings lately. Oh well.

considering it takes 10 pounds of milk to make a pound of cheese, the real damage is even worse.
