EEEEEEEW. Though I have to say the guy who did the article made it sound like all eggs are fertilized, and that isn't the case. But still. ITA. No eggs for me, thanks. I only have 3 left in the fridge and I'm not touching them. I think I'll toss them when I can get to them under the veggies on that shelf.

I didn't think so, bekajoi... they did describe how the clerk told them that's what was "special" about them.

I saw more than enough fertilized eggs when I worked as a cook at Denny's. They weren't supposed to be fertilized either. They weren't quite as "far along" as this egg was though.

haha, oops! I didn't remember that thread. I don't think I even looked at the link that time, I just knew how gross fertilized eggs were from experience.

I know this site! Atilla is great. He also has a myspace, for those who would like to add a vegan friend.

It's called "Balut" (pronounced like Bah-loot) originates in the Phillipines.

Even most filipinos think it's gross.

You crack the top off the egg and suck it out eating the whole thing (muck and all)

I am nauseous just thinking about it.

Balut is a fertilized egg allowed to almost fully develop.

How sad! The chick is actually kind of cute. I mean, if you disregard all the slime. I can't believe people actually eat fertilized eggs!

Amazingly similar to one of those prolife, here's-your-abortion-in-graphic-detail type of sites.

I don't have such a big problem with those pro-life photos, and I'm not really pro-life myself. The main problem with them, according to some, is that they guilt women who are already conflicted about having to abort. The same cannot be said about eating eggs.

Speaking of the pro-lifers who do that... without warning... I think that's just wrong. Don't trick someone into opening up a page of photos like that. (what if there are kids in the room!?)

Blah. Some people. (thanks for the warning, by the way. )

Sent it to my husband (who is still lacto-ovo veg), and I swear he wouldn't eat for about 12 hours. When he did, it was mashed potatoes. Plain. That's all his stomach could handle.

There's still eggs in the fridge (at least they're from the local organic egg farm... we're lucky out here), but he hasen't yet touched them.

*sigh*

I had ducks as a kid-- hatched them myself (ok, not literally, but you get the picture). This really hit home hard... wrong on SO many levels.

Ughhh... *sways a little* so... nasty...

K this is not so bad but the LAST time I ate eggs (before I went vegan), just scrambled or whatever, I cracked the egg and it wasn't fertilized but it had a big glob of blood in it. And when that fell into the pan and started sizzling I just about threw up, and that was it for eggs, vegan or not.

There's only so long a person can eat embryos and not feel a little weird about it. BLECH. ...I'm sad for the duckie.

can I just say, if he is vegan, what is he doing buying fertilised eggs? Even if this is to prove a point, I would not go out of my way to buy some rancid meat just to photograph it and stick it on the internet. by doing so he has contributed to that duck foetus' death, and I don't think you can justify that in the name of 'educating people about veganism'.

I disagree. If I was vegetarian and I saw that egg, I'd be turned off.

Thankfully, I'm vegan!

This person who did this is not basing it on fact, he found a fertalized egg and is doing a scaretactict.

Suggesting that eating an unfertalized egg is killing something, is like saying that a woman having her period is killing something, sure if it was fertalized and had a little time it would become a baby, but most eggs that people eat are not fertalized.

I see these types of pictures as brainwashing, trying to scare people in to your belifes, no better then that pro-life stuff.

That is not to say that people should eat eggs (I dont mostaly) But this article is not the way to convince people to stop eating eggs
