Dealing with Taking Non-Vegan Medications

Long story short after 3 hospitalizations and seeing various specialists I'm on 7 prescription medications, and I'm sure none of them are vegan. I've tried lowering doses but I really seem to need them all. Prior to my hospitalizations I tried some herbal remedies but they seemed to make things worse instead of better. I really need these meds, but I can't help but feel bad for the animals. Anyone else in a similar boat? How do you cope?

Don't worry about it. If you need them, nothing you can do. It's not about being a perfect level 10 vegan.
Hopefully one day you'll be able to take less medication. Not because of the animals, but because that seems like way too much meds to be on.

"We have enslaved the rest of the animal creation, and have treated our distant cousins in fur and feathers so badly that beyond doubt, if they were able to formulate a religion, they would depict the Devil in human form." - William Ralphe Inge

Yes, agreed with Jess.

This is not a choice you are making, there's simply no other option for you to survive. I know what it's like, some of my meds aren't vegan either.

But we do what we can, that's what matters!

I take medicines that probably contain animal products, but the amount is probably far less than a millionth of a cow. I have very serious mental health problems when I don't take my medicines. It's not worth sacrificing my mental health for vegan absolute perfection (which isn't even possible without considering medicines).

This is one of those unavoidable situations. Our family's philosophy is that we always try to do less harm, but we don't put our health in jeopardy. I mean, we eat veggies the growth of which inevitably kill hoards of insects. Know that you are doing what you can to make the world a more humane place and try to have some compassion for yourself as well as any creatures who are harmed.

I hear you!

I take three medications I can't go without. Two of them are usually manufactured as capsules, but there are tablets available. I ask my doctors to prescribe tablets, and that way I know I'm at least avoiding the gelatin. The other animal ingredients I ask the animals to forgive me for, and I keep in mind the thousands of spared lives over my 29 years of veganism.
