Vegan and pregnant

I've been a vegetarian for 22 years and a vegan for one. I just got back from my 11- week ultrasound and my baby's measuring big for his age: 12 weeks! He's also got a strong heartbeat and a lot of energy. He was jumping all over the place today. So much for veganism being unhealthy for fetuses!

I'm curious to hear stories from other vegan moms. Were your doctors and midwives supportive? Did you face any opposition from friends and family? How are your children developing after a vegan pregnancy?

Congrats no whey! I'm an OB nurse and have seen a few vegans and they each had very healthy pregnancies and babies.

You will need to eat a lot of volume of food, and later in the pregnancy you may awaken for a midnight snack some nights.

That's great news! Unfortunately I was not vegan when pg with my children, so can't really share my personal experience, but you might find this very interesting

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I am almost 26 weeks pregnant and my OB never said a word about my being vegan. My unborn child is a bundle of energy, too!

As long as you eat a wide variety of healthy foods, you will be fine from a nutritional standpoint.

My family members have not said anything either(but then, they know that I am more informed in the arena of health and nutrition anyway).

Thanks so much for your responses, everyone! I've been lucky in that I haven't encountered any opposition, either. The nurse at the pregnancy clinic even printed out a few pamphlets on vegan nutrition.

I don't mind eating more at all! In fact, I may go grab a snack right now...
