Hello, all! I am planning on going vegan this summer, and I need a new pair of shoes, anyway. My question is, how can a person tell if the shoes are vegan if they are not marked vegan or are from a vegan brand? Is there any place on the shoe that I could tell if it contains leather or not, and the glue?
Thanks.

Pretty much the only way you'll find out about the glue, if the company is not strictly vegan, is contacting the company and ask. I'm not aware of any shoe containing that info on a tag or something.

You can look on the tag that is usually sewn onto the tongue of the shoe and see what it's made of. Here's a guide to understanding it.

Also, you can look Zappos vegan list and get an idea of what brands have vegan shoes: http://www.zappos.com/vegan
New Balance also has vegan gym shoes (well, I don't know about the glue). I don't have an updated list, but you can email them for one. But they will list whether there is skin on the shoe or not if you look here: http://shopnewbalance.com

Edit: Also remembered, T.U.K has vegan shoes. Definitely not everyone's style though. Same with Punk.com. Many brands there.

I usually just buy non-leather shoes. There are cheap stores where I can get them.

Made from man made materials

Is usually a good sign of veg shoes.

Personally I don't worry about glues. The materials aren't always well labelled on shoes, though, so it can be a bit aggravating.
If you're looking for something specific maybe we can help (faux leather dress shoes, cvos, desert boots).

I am just looking for a good running shoe. I want to exercise more this summer. :P All of my other shoes are still in good condition, so I will use them until they wear out/I can afford to get a newer pair of vegan ones.

I was going to suggest zappos also. I was looking at these earlier. I've always been really happy with asics for running shoes.

I was at a vegan store today and they carried a brand called Vegetarian Shoes. Looked very interesting.

Yeah, new balance and asics have several non leather options. Don't believe the New Balance "made in america" nonsense, though. They outsource a lot now. I did, however, pick up a pair of nb's for $30 at Marshalls a while ago.
