If you've been vegan for any length of time, it's likely that you are now lactose intolerant, so it's a moot point...

They really have a lot of angry customers right now. This is reminding me of Netflix. I'm hoping the outcome is better for the customer this time.

I've corrected people, saying that people should not expect companies to eat the price of things that cost more just because they have an allergy or ethical restrictions. I then state that the soy milk thing should still be free for the Gold card people, as we spent a lot of money to get them. They offered a rewards system, we put the money into it, now they're taking it away. I feel like I was just slapped on the face by Starbucks.

How long? I can go as long as 4 months with no dairy, and return to dairy with no problem. Maybe I'm just weird.

I'm not even a vegan and milk upsets my stomach if I drink it straight.

There are also quite a few comments here on the post about the change, over 350 last that I checked.

Seems like any potential savings they're getting from not offering the free upgrades is going to be more than canceled out by all the business they're losing. I won't say I will never go there again, but I sure won't be going enough to renew my gold card...it'll be an occasional thing like it used to be before I got the card. And I'll get my regular lattes at the coffee shop in front of my house.

Agreed Kari. Though the real test comes after the changes take place, I am curious as how many people will vote with wallets. Really that is the only way things will change regarding the soy or free syrups.

The amount of rage on their Facebook page is pretty awesome to see, if this makes the news like that Netflix thing did they might actually be forced to change their minds.

Dairy-Free Drama as Starbucks Drops Free Soy Milk

It's in the news! Wired did a story about it.

Does anyone know if the salted caramel mocha is vegan?  I'm finding conflicting info via google.  Also the barista I asked said the mocha syrup had milk in it, but I've been drinking nothing but mochas for months because I thought they were vegan, so I'm not sure if he's just blowing smoke.

Anyone know?

I heard that the salted caramel mochas aren't vegan but the regular mocha with soy and no whip definitely is.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm 95% sure they're vegan. The syrups are mocha, toffee nut, then they sprinkle a mix of sugar and sea salt on top. I'll try to get more info next time I go, but I'm pretty sure that's it.

the caramel sauce is the only thing nonvegan i think.

I thought it was toffee nut and mocha with whipped cream on top+drizzled caramel+turbinado+seasalt

omit

-whipped cream

-caramel sauce

=vegan

I didn't realize they added caramel sauce. Good to know smiley.gif

My question is why is it called salted caramel mocha instead of salted toffee nut mocha?

Yeah, but the main flavor is the toffee nut, the caramel sauce isn't even that much in comparison to the toffee nut. They should add caramel instead of TN. When I first tried it a month ago, I said out loud "Damn, this is pure toffee nut."

Not any worth buying there for.

I know you weren't being mean. :) I need to go tomorrow and try the SCM, but without the toffee nut. I'm going to ask for caramel instead.

Starbucks doesn't serve healthy things, lets be honest here laugh.gif I would definitely say that sugar is better than the artificial sweeteners like Splenda. Just do it.

Healthy isn't just about calories though, it's more about nutritional value. A venti SCM has calcium in the milk, it's a health food, duh laugh.gif I was comparing sugar free versions to full sugar ones. A simple sweetened coffee is definitely a better choice than the Splenda and sugar ones. I know that my 75g sugar drink are going to kill me one day,but at least I'll die happy laugh.gif

Did you taste nothing but toffee nut too?
