This morning the book (booklet really - it's only around 40 pages) A Vegan History 1944-2010 by Erik Marcus went on sale in a Kindle edition on Amazon.com. I got a copy right away. A preliminary review follows. I'll do a more comprehensive critique after I've given it a more thorough reading.

First impression: some folks are going to hate this. A lot. It doesn't really live up to the title. It deals more with 'mainstream' vegetarianism and animal protectionism. There are major omissions - Ten Talents is the one I find most glaring in its absence.

But I don't want to get into specifics yet. If you don't have much background in the topic and have a few extra bucks this will give you some slight foundation for further learning.

Not recommended for most.

I might have bought it as a book, but the Kindle software doesn't run on Linux which is what my computer runs on. Just was well.

I know e-books are probably an inevitability, but I don't want to support the bad things that they will bring like being charged per reading, embedded advertisements, having a corporation track what I read, having corporations being able to cut me off from my books or having a corporation being able to update the content of my books("Gee, I always though Washington was the father of the country, not Lincoln").

Not to mention toxic electronic waste for something that could have been done with paper. Not enough 3rd world labor getting sick pulling our old electronics apart.
