I'm going to a family function on Sunday (first time as a vegan) and I want to take something along with me. I was thinking of making some cookies/cupcakes, or something along those lines, but i've never done any vegan baking before and it has to be yummy! Even something savoury would be ok but I thought sweet might go down better. I'm going to try and be sneaky and not tell them that its vegan until after they've eaten it. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a first timer??

I've always had good luck with vegan cupcakes, and all omnis I've fed them to rave about them. I use the recipes from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World. You can find the recipe for the chocolate ones here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...112800506.html

These always go down well, and are really easy to make!

replace the raisins with chocolate chips, if you want.

If it's your first time baking as a vegan and you have the time, I would recommend doing a tryout version first - tonight/tomorrow since sometimes baked goods can be tricky!

My mom just had a little cook out the other day and I brought a bean burger for me (just wrapped it in foil and threw it on the grill), some pasta salad, a regular salad, and some chocolate chip cookies. Vegan baking is very easy, especially if you've already learned the basics of baking. I like using milled flax seed instead of eggs and earth balance instead of butter in most things. Chocolate chip cookies are pretty easy, in my opinion. I also think the chewy chocolate raspberry cookies from veganomicon are very easy.
