Newer Vegan here, i was having an ice cream craving so i went to the store, and there are quite a few different brands/styles of vegan ice cream. I was just wondering without trying everyone for myself which brand do you think is the best.

The only vegan ice cream that's available near me (and doesn't cost a fortune) is Tofutti vanilla, the one that comes in a pint. I think it tastes like frozen icing, which for me is a good thing!

Turtle Mountain Purely Decadent ORIGINAL chocolate offerings.

All the coconut milk-based varieties taste like coconut, which is not a big deal if you agree that chocolate or mint or [some other flavor] should taste like coconut.

PD Coconut Milk Coconut is pretty good, though.

Keep on freepin' on

Try them all! Each have a different texture and different flavor. I really really love rice dream "ice cream" but it's only available in a few flavors. It's lighter, almost like a frozen froth pudding or something. I really like it.

I also enjoy the tofutti cuties (the "ice cream" sandwiches) as a treat. They are tasty and easy to grab.

Those are good. They taste exactly like I remember dairy ice cream sandwiches tasting like.

I've had several different flavors of Temptation ice cream by chicago soy dairy and loved them all.

Unfortunately veganism hasn't caught on big time in my local area so they only sell one brand "So Delicious".

It's pretty good. I can't compare it to other brands because I haven't actually had them.

Sadly they only sell basic vanilla and chocolate around here, although I understand many flavors exist.

Tam! RUGH!

Make your own instead. Take a banana and cut it in pieces. Put it in the freezer over the night. Take it out the next day and toss it in the blender and keep blending until it is like a cream. Add some syrup and some vanilla if you think you need it, add some other frozen berries if you want it. Easy and really great taste and not so damn unhealthy after all.

Cafe Graditude Raw Ice cream is the best ( but extremely expensive $7.99 for a pint)

Purely Decadent is the second best. (huge variety of flavors and reasonably priced)

I do that. It's wonderful and has completely satisfied my ice cream craving. It's closer to soft-serve ice cream than hard-packed. But I just love it.

The Peanut Butter Zig Zag and the Brownie ones are AMAZING. If I buy them I usually will eat them in one day haha. So I only buy them a couple times a year.

I wondered the same thing as Jen, but then saw that the op was in North America. Soy Cream's fake Cherry Garcia (can't recall the real name) is one of my favorites, along with this Tofutti almond bark thing that I can only find at ice cream shops.

Everything Stateside though, pales in comparison to Swedish Glace's vanilla and Booja Booja's chocolate. Seriously, the BB is so good that you'll get weak in the knees.

Ooh...and Swedish Glace makes these *****in' Eskimo Pies, though these crazy Brits call them "lollies".

Oh my lord, why did I post in this thread? Diet be damned....

I'll have to agree with those guys up there. I love Tofutti's Cuties. Little ice cream sandwiches =] They taste just like the real thing! In fact, I now have to hide them because my father, the omnivore, continues to devour them =[

Yes! Tempt is amazing. I've tried a lot of different vegan ice cream, and I mean a LOT. Tempt has the best texture out of all of them I think. I also like so delicious coconut milk cookie dough ice cream.

This. Though instead of berries, I add cashew butter to mine. I've served this to some omni friends and they wanted the recipe.

Turtle Mountain is good, but really the very best I've ever had is from Maggie Mudd's. If anyone is ever in the SF Bay Area they need to go to Maggie Mudd's.

Another vote for Tempt!! My favorite flavor in that is the Vanilla Bean.

In 2nd would be any coconut milk ice cream - So Delicous or Luna and Larry's, both are good... and I've tried a bunch of flavors, so I don't even know what my favorite is. I have always loved cookies and cream

Thank you for that! I had seen Tempt at Whole Foods, but had shyed away from it as I don't like hemp milk. There was a coupon for by one get one free. So I got the Lime Coconut and the Mint Chip....

All I have to say is.....

BEST Vegan ice cream EVER!! - Nuff said.

dairy free ice cream has come a long way. i tried rice dream 10 years ago and thought it was too sugary tasting-and now there's a plethora of yummy brands and flavors.

we keep the basic vanilla soy delicious in the freezer cuz you can add it to anything. i love my homemade orange julius'! orange juice and ice cream blended. mmmmmm.

I don't have a freezer but I tried to do it in the fridge (with that set on max) and it worked just fine. Which is great because now I can make this ice-cream when my grandkids come. They love ice-cream and while they do understand why grandma and me don't want to eat meat they have a really hard time figuring out why we're not eating ice-cream anymore. Well, that's about to change and the coolest part of it is that I can look my step-daughter right in her face feeling no shame at all when I tell her that it's true that the kids have again eaten lots of ice-cream when they visit us.
